Sony will be shipping a new model of
PlayStation 2 in Japan this summer, with the model number updated from
SCPH-10000 to SCPH-15000, it is rumored that the new version will have
different internal designs to prevent the mod chips from working.
In
a recent purchaser survey from SCEI, the average age of the
PlayStation 2 owners are higher than the owners of the original
PlayStation.

Sorry guys, busy with online
store still, so have not had time to do updates.
Sony has sold through
2 million units of Playstation 2 in Japan in early May, currently PS2
sold between 50,000 to 100,000 units each week.
Enix has officially
announced the release date of Dragon Quest VII: Soldiers from Eden for
Playstation in Japan on August 26, in 2-CDs, for 7800 yen.
Sony Computer
Entertainment America has announced official details of the US version
of Playstation 2.
- Playstation
2 will be launch in US on October 26, for $299.
- The DVD
Driver will be built-in to the system using Flash ROM, it is
upgradable. It does not require a 8MB Memory Card to play DVD
movies.
- 8MB
Memory Card will not be bundled with the system, it will be sold
separately for $34 US.
- The US
version of Playstation 2 will not have PCMCIA connection, instead
an empty slot inside the console will be used for future upgrades,
such as hard drive or network adaptor.
- Sony is
planning to release a Network Expansion Pack for PS2 after the
launch, the content is not confirmed, but it will very likely to
include network adaptor, a 20-30 GB Hard drive, subscription to
network services and the necessary software, for around $100 - 200
US.

Sorry
folks, I was a little too busy with my new online store so didn't have
time to update PlayStation Zone recently. Now here is the latest
news.
Sony announced that the total shipment of Playstation 2 has reached 2
millions by the end of last week (week of April 9th). The figure has
already surpassed the shipment of Sega's Dreamcast in Japan.
According to SCEI, they have acquired the export permit from
Ministry of International Trade and Industry in Japan, so they
can export the PlayStation 2 console to the US and Europe. SCEI
will be shipping 6 millions PlayStation 2 console to US and Europe
(each 3 millions) in this year. Hopefully the price of
PlayStation 2 will drop to normal market price range. Again, I

Sony announced that the mass production factory for manufacturing LSI
have completed, and they will producing PS2 chipsets in this
factory.
SCEI has added one more PS game to the incompatibility list for
Playstation 2, it is D3 Publisher's puzzle game Hello Kitty's Cube de
Cute (price reduced version), the game will not run normally in the
PS2.
