THE NORTH KOREA REPORT: SEPTEMBER 7, 2004 With the Olympics in Athens over, Communist China is preparing to turn the 2008 Games into a two-week long propaganda bonanza. What should the U.S. do? At the very least, stay home in 2008. Sign the petition for an American boycott of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Dragon in the Dark: How and Why Communist China Helps Our Enemies in the War on Terror is now available: here, at Amazon, or at 1-888-280-7715. Our statement on why northern Korea must be liberated can be found here. TOP STORY: MORE REFUGEES ENTER JAPANESE SCHOOL IN BEIJING . . . Twenty-nine more refugees have entered a democracys diplomatic compounds in Beijing, in this case a Japanese school. The refugees are hoping to complete their escape from North Korea, and South Korea has already said they would take them. Report: BBC Communist China a North Korean ally for over fifty years sends back any NK refugee it can find, forcing them to either live as nonpersons, try to reach Vietnam, or make a dash for diplomatic compounds in Beijing run by democratic nations. . . . AS NORTH KOREA PULLS ENVOY FROM NATION THAT HELPED OVER 450 REFUGEES Speaking of Vietnam, North Korea angrily recalled its ambassador from a South East Asian country to protest its role in a mass defection of North Korean refugees (BBC). The unnamed nation, which helped over 450 refugees from North Korea go to South Korea last month (see 8/2 and 8/10 NKRs), has been reported to be Vietnam. Stop the North Korean Nuclear Power Plants: Are the plants dead or arent they? You can make sure they dont come back! Use this China e-Lobby fact sheet and tell the President to kill the power plants from the 1994 agreement that North Korea broke. OTHER NEWS ON COMMUNIST CHINAS ROLE COMMUNIST PROFESSOR BLASTS NK, BUT ARTICLE PUT ON HOLD Wang Zhongwen, an economic researcher at the Tianjin Social Sciences Research Institute, attacked North Koreas patrimonial system and leftist policy (Epoch Times), and even hinted that the Communist ally instigates disputes between China and the U.S. It was one of the most blistering commentaries against North Korea to be written in the PRC. What does this mean for PRC-NK relations? It seems a lot less than meets the eye. The magazine that was to publish the article is suddenly suffering internal difficulty, a sign that at least some cadres are not happy. Moreover, the Communists have already laid the groundwork for Plan B: North Korea as PRC territory (see 1/26 and 8/23 NKRs). AMERICAN-RELATED NEWS CHARLES ROBERT JENKINS WILL TURN HIMSELF IN TO U.S. Sergeant Charles Robert Jenkins, still in a Japanese hospital, announced he would voluntarily face the charges that have been filed against me by the US Army (BBC). Jenkins is charged with desertion to North Korea in 1965; his American relatives insist he was kidnapped and brainwashed by the Stalinists. Jenkins is married to Japanese abduction victim Hitoma Soga. the Stalinists let her go two years ago. He and their children joined her this summer (see 9/23/02, 9/30/02, 10/7/02, 10/14/02, 10/21/02, 10/28/02, 11/18/02, 12/19/02, 5/24, 7/19, 7/27, and 8/10 NKRs). INTERNATIONAL NEWS BRITISH FOREIGN OFFICIAL TO VISIT NORTH KOREA Bill Rammell, an official in the British Foreign office, will become the first British minister to visit North Korea (BBC) when he flies to Pyongyang later this month. Among the issues to be discussed are, of course, the Norths nuclear ambitions, and human rights. BRITISH LAWYER OPENS LAW FIRM IN PYONGYANG Meanwhile, a British attorney is opening a law firm in Pyongyang to advise investors doing business there (BBC). Mike Hay, of Hay, Kalb Associates, said the move would provide a comfort level on the part of foreign investors. OTHER SOUTH KOREA NEWS SOUTH KOREA ADMITS TO ALMOST WEAPONIZING MINISCULE AMOUNT OF URANIUM South Korea admitted to the International Atomic Energy Agency that it nearly weaponized less than a quarter of a gram of uranium, although it insists the scientists behind the move acted without the government's knowledge (CNN). The admission will likely become grist for Stalinist North Koreas propaganda mill. Also reporting: BBC, Cybercast News, Time Asia North Korea boasted that it had weaponized uranium almost two years ago, setting off a string of moves that have led to three rounds of six-way talks (Communist China, North Korea, South Korea, Russia, Japan, and the U.S.), which have produced only American concessions (see 10/21/02, 12/8/03, 12/22/03, and 6/28 NKRs). COMMENTARY/ANALYSIS BUCHANAN WANTS FULL PULLOUT FROM SOUTH KOREA; NO MENTION OF LIBERATION Pat Buchanan is happy with the partial withdrawal of American troops from South Korea (see 6/1, 6/7, 6/14, and 8/23 NKRs), but now wants a full pullout to restore our freedom of action as to when and whether we wish to intervene in a second Korean War (World Net Daily). On liberating the people of northern Korea, Pat remains completely silent. SOME FIND KERRY-EDWARDS STAND ON IRAN FAMILIAR Democratic Vice-Presidential Nominee John Edwards presented his tickets plan for a grand bargain with would-be-nuclear Iran. Some analysts have seen this before in the 1994 Agreed Framework and express their disapproval to Cybercast News. Check out the Communist China and the Terrorist War page.
