Welcome to the China Arts and Crafts Pages. These pages are devoted to Chinese art and
handicraft work, mostly from the area of Chengdu, the capital city of the Sichuan province in
southwest China. Here, we hope to show you a variety of fine examples.
CRAFTS FROM CHINA
Chengdu is justly famous, both in China and abroad, for its special crafts and
fine arts. This delicate, beautiful silver thread ware shown left is a typical example.
As well as silver thread ware we can show you a wide range of crafts,
including the famous palm-leaf products, Shu embroidery (one of the four splendid Chinese
embroidery schools) traditional lacquer wares, bamboo ware, porcelain,
straw products and plush toys.

PAINTINGS BY XIA YANGJIN
The painting shown left, entitled "A Calm Gulf" is only one of the many works of art created by
the celebrated Chinese artist, Xia Yangjin. This is a fine watercolour painting, with a peaceful, tranquil subject, 77.4 cm wide by 52.8 cm high. Although he has created paintings in oils, Xia prefers to work with watercolours and the majority of his works are in this medium.
