THE
ENGAGEMENT
Christon
showed up at Wendy's office at HGS in a limo dressed in a suit
on Tuesday, June 17, 2003. It was our 2 year anniversary on that day so
she thought
he was surprising her to celebrate it. So off we go to downtown DC
in the lashing rain. He tells her we are going to dinner so at
first she was worried because she hadn't any clothes with her and she
felt she was dressed like a knacker but then he says that he had brought a whole
bunch of clothes from her wardrobe and they are at the hotel so she could
change before hand...Now you know that has to be dangerous!!
We get stuck
in traffic on the way down and it ends up taking twice as long to get
there but the "there" was not the hotel...instead Christon
brings her to the US Capitol building. The driver lets us out and
then Christon proceeds to take Wendy over to this little gazebo thing.
Inside there was a fountain and a little waterfall and right in front of
a waterfall was a chair with a bouquet on it.
Then there was this
towel sitting next to it. He sits her down and says that he has an
important question to ask her. But then he says that he thinks some other people
may want to see this....well...out from nowhere comes Wendy's mom, dad,
and sister as well as all of Christon's family complete with a video
camera and everything!!! Wendy of course was quite shocked couldn't believe he had
brought her whole family over here without her knowing! So after all of the
hugs and kisses...he sits her back down with a serious look on his face.
Now he starts his spiel but everybody was in a dream world at this point and
have no idea what he was
saying but he was basically telling her that he loved her and wanted this
to be real or something like that...we'll have to watch the video to know
what he said.
Then he grabs the towel and puts it on the floor in
front of her...he then
got on one knee and brought out a little blue box. He says
again that he has to ask her something and then opens the box...the
bloody thing was empty!!!! And he didn't know what had
happened. So then he says
"I bet that dog took it...Bailey...come here" and out comes
our little fireball soaked to the heavens...she couldn't control herself
she was so excited!!! I saw the ring on her collar but Christon
was trying to get it off but she wouldn't sit still! Eventually he
squeezed her down and got the ring off.
He
actually picked the ring out himself! This is a real
shock for a guy who used to use a computer server as a nightstand.
Then...he asked her to be his wife...and all she could say was "Well I
can't exactly say no, can I?"...then we think she eventually said yes but
were not quite sure....need to look a the tape again! But either way...the short end of it is...we are
engaged! After all of this, we all got into the limo...all 10 of
us and went to the hotel where she could get changed. Her fears
earlier were true as she sifted through all of these clothes with absolutely
nothing that matched. He brought a sack of her shoes
but she ended up having to wear the ones she wore to work. You gotta
love him though! So after getting changed in the quickest time
ever, we went off to Les Halles restaurant in DC....and it was
absolutely wonderful. Christon had booked an open bar so everybody was just about twisted before the 1st course came out.
And then right before dessert...the pressies came out. Wendy's parents,
sister, aunts, uncle all had gotten us lovely Waterford crystal
pieces...it really was quite lovely. Then Christon's family gave
Wendy some more jewelry to kind of match the ring and they gave my parents
and sister a gift. So it turned out to be a very lovely evening to
say the least.
So now we come to our wedding...two
years later to the day on June 17, 2005. We hope you can help us
make it as memorable as the engagement by joining us!
