WE
NEED YOU!
As a CVP volunteer, you can read stories and do crafts with
kids, maintain play areas, and support families
experiencing incarceration.
Membership is $10 per year.
As a volunteer you know that our main goal is to support
families during their visiting times at some of our Federal
Institutions. Research shows that family support is crucial
to the reintegration of inmates on their release so that a
positive visiting experience is one of the important
factors in this support.
Our volunteers go out once a month (it would be more often
if we had more volunteers or our volunteers had more time
to offer) on a week-end to read stories to the visiting
children, and to supervise a craft session or play in the
children's area. This gives parents of younger children an
opportunity for some private conversation and also gives
children something of interest to do during the 2 to 3 hour
visiting period.
Volunteers need to be over 18 years of age, and have had
some experience working with children. They also have to
become members of CVP ($10.00 per year), pass a Corrections
Security check, and have two orientation visits with an
experienced CVP volunteer.
