You've probably heard Someone say "You can't have one without the other." That is what the yin and yang mean. Opposites are all around us, they are everywhere. If there is day, then there is night. Because something is high, something else must be low. If one thing is hard, that must mean something else is soft. We know what soft feels like because we've felt something hard. We know what loud sounds like because we've heard something soft. As you can see, opposite define each other. You can tell what one means by the other. If you are told to swim in the shallow end of the pool, you know there must be a deep end also.
