<<   Lesson 3 C 2   >>
Guilt
Just as everyone is aware that they have a conscience everyone is also aware of guilt.  When we sin we feel guilty.  The reason we feel guilty is because we are guilty.  Just as the conscience has been instilled in us by God so is guilt.  It comes and just will not leave until it is dealt with.

Most of us try to deal with guilt by balancing it with blame. This is easy to see in children who are so honest about everything.  Johnny why did you hit Susan?  She made a face at me!   Right from childhood we try to balance out our guilt by blaming someone or something.   But still the guilt lives on.
This method of dealing with guilt by blaming someone else makes it very difficult to forgive others.  When we forgive others for offending us it makes us feel all the more guilty for doing what we did to them.  As long as we don't forgive them, we can continue to blame them and then we can rationalize our guilt away.
God desires for each one of His children to be free of guilt, not by blaming others or circumstances or upbringing but by dealing with the sins that we have committed so that He will forgive us and set us free from all guilt.
