Psychiatric hospital,s number one problem is dealing with guilt. Since the worlds answer to guilt is blame, most counselling is searching a persons background to find something to blame for their failures and problems. They hope that if they can find something to blame for their problems the guilt will go away.
Often people will look for something to pacify their guilt. Turning to something to occupy the mind so that the guilt does not surface. In extreme cases alcohol or drugs or immorality is an answer that many turn to. But for the most part, especially Christians find the answer in things that are perfectly OK, but they just do them to extremes. Music is probably the prime example but movies, books, activities, school, day dreaming, are all things that people use as an escape from the real world into a world where guilt does not exist. These things may all be fine in themselves but when they become a pacifier that keeps us from dealing with guilt that comes from our sins then they must go. |
