House of Good Shephard - Our Local Philanthropy
Our primary local philanthropy is the House of Good Shephard (HOGS). A women's domestic violence shelter, the HOGS provides shelter and life skills to battered women and their children. After leaving the shelter the women return to attend a monthly after care program, where they receive job skill training and the opportunity to "shop" for new clothing. While the mothers attend their activities on the third Sunday of each month from 1:15-3:30 p.m., volunteers entertain the children, ranging between infants to age 12. Contact Michelle Tanios ([email protected]) for more information and to volunteer.
- Each November Michelle Tanios collects donations for an adopted family from HOGS, where she purchases gifts to make the holidays special. Often these kids don't have a wrapped present to open. Last year more than $200 was collected to make Christmas special for a family; the previous year, $300 was collected.
