THE STORY:  in the Country

We stayed in Sana'a for 5 days before beginning the journey to the Hadhramaut province and Wadi Sana.  This wadi is a smaller drainage channel emptying north into the impressive Wadi Hadhramaut.  To reach our final destination we passed through Mukullah, staying only a night before driving northward into the stoney desert of interior Yemen.  Mukullah is the major eastern sea-coast city located overlooking the Arabian Sea.

We moved on to the Masila, which is on the jol or highlands of the country's interior.  For our first few work weeks, we spent nights at CANOXY (Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd.) drilling camp.  This meant early mornings and very late evenings due to the > 1.5 hr commute to Wadi Sana.  Later, however, we were able to set up a very comfortable camp in Wadi Sana.
