Here is an example of the silt formations in Wadi Shumlee.  Currently they are in the process of being eroded away.  Although wind plays a part in the erosion, the tremendous force of the few yearly seils which move down the wadis like tidal waves effeciently wash away both soil and vegetation standing in the water's path.
