Action Items & Subcommittees of the Scholastic Committee

We established a number of subcommittees and are looking for scholastic members to join them. We think that small groups of committee members working in areas of interest will accomplish much more than one large committee. They may find it easier to meet at one location or to work by phone or computer. Our next project is to staff each sub committee asking them to develop goals and timelines. The following is a list of subcommittees that we suggested and those who have currently volunteered to participate on them.

Bob Ferguson		Post preliminary website information on Scholastic Council / Committee website.
De Knudson	Tom Brownscombe	Have scholastic council contact information posted on the USCF Website, on Coaches’ Corner, in Chess Coach Newsletter, and perhaps included in School Mates.
	Tom Brownscombe	Information about chess in education workshops and other events need to be updated on the website at least monthly.
All		Each council member get feedback from 10 others and ask those ten others to request feedback from 10 others.

Beatriz Marinello		Establish online Scholastic chess league.
		Persuade the National Federation of High School Associations to add chess to their list of activities.
		Assist the Chess in Education Committee in organizing Chess Clinics. Mike Zacate mentioned that the ICCA has sponsored many of these in past years. These ideas should be incorporated into the coach certification program.
Bob Ferguson	Tom Brownscombe	Review scholastic-chessplayer awards criteria, process, and explanation. Update and publicize increase in scholarships.
	Carol Addison	Implement and maintain SCINFO (Scholastic Council Information System)
