Inside Front Cover
This inside cover was designed conjointly by Melvin's older twin brothers. The poem was composed by Jordan originally in Sindarin, one of the dialects of "Elvish" as created by J.R.R. Tolkien for his books on Middle-earth, before being roughly translated into English. This was further polished by Joy to the form down below; note that the names of Cheremyn and Melvin, when their root meanings were taken, were translated as Lindiel and Silgon, respectively. Other forms of their names are Lindeth and Melgon, which were "translated" as their nicknames, Cherm and Melbong (this being the favorite nickname used by Melvin's Dad).
The background can be recognized as the basic design done in ithildin found on the East Gate of Moria, slightly modified. For instance, the emblems of Durin have been removed, and the inscriptions have been changed. The first line, written in Sindarin in Tengwar script, now reads: Im Gryfon Holl hain he; Estel i-Dhadrantor teithant i-laer he."I, Gryphon Hall, made this; Hope Jordan wrote the poem." while the second line, written in English in Dwarven runes, now reads: "Forged in Gryphon Hall".
The Tengwar script above and below the entire design repeatedly reads the names of Cheremyn and Melvin
