| My name is Lu Sipos. On December 26th 2002 my world fell apart... Sitting in a room in Vanderbilt Hospital, feeling like the eyes of the world were on my husband and I, I heard the worst news I have ever heard in my life. My husband remembered being introduced to the oncology team the night before; I on the other hand could not have told you what oncology even meant. Rob may have guessed what was coming, I was blind-sided. I was so shocked in fact, that I couldn't even cry when I was told that my only child had cancer. I felt as though my brain were trying to absorb too much information. My ears hummed and my head was swimming... I closed my eyes and re-opened them... THIS IS REALLY WHERE I AM. Gabriel had not even reached his first birthday, and he was to learn more about chemotherapy than most people care to know. In an instant we became "THOSE PEOPLE", those people you read about, those poor people, things always happen to those people...until they happen to you. WELL...THIS IS REALLY WHERE YOU ARE TOO..., so you are probably one of "THOSE PEOPLE" as well. Whether you have just become one of those people, or have transformed into a fully-fledged "CHEMO PARENT", we want to help you. During the weeks following diagnosis, we received a crash course in catheter care, learned how to give nupogen shots, and we recieved a packet of information all about Gabe's diagnosis. Unfortunately no one told us how to survive or how to become "Chemo Parents", we had to figure that out by trial and error. I have two goals for this website: 1) To bridge the gap between diagnosis and fully fledged "Chemo Parent", there is help available. We can show you where. 2) To pass on information to all Chemo Parents about current events, advocacy news, fund-raising etc.... |
