#22 - Factor Label Method
Suppose you wanted to count marbles. You have 30 boxes of marbles; in each box, you have 1,000 marbles, then how many would you have?
Well, scientists have figured out a way to figure this out. It�s a method called the factor label method. It�s used to convert anything that can be converted
First, draw a line:

Then put the information you know on the top of the line:
30 boxes of marbles_____________________________________________
Draw a line next to that information:
30 boxes of marbles | | | ____________________________________________ | |

Then put down a conversion factor that will change the number of boxes into marbles:
30 boxes of marbles |

Notice how the units on the first section matches the units on the bottom of second section. You should always write your conversion factors like this, so they can cancel like this:
30 boxes of marbles |

1 box of marbles |
You should have one unit left, that�s the unit that�s going to be used (# of marbles), so all you have to do is multiply all the numbers on the top, and all the numbers on the bottom:
30 boxes of marbles |

= 30,000 marbles |

1 box of marbles | |
= 1 |
And then divide the numbers:
= 30,000 marbles
You will have 30,000 marbles when you have 30 boxes of marbles at 1,000 marbles each.
Cool! Now what exactly was I talking about earlier with these conversion factors? what is it? Well, they convert one thing to another.
For example, these can be considered conversion factors:

Things with the word "per" can be used as conversion factors:
- 60 miles per hour |
parlez "oui" |
- 30 marbles per box |
- Three meals per day |

- 50 olives per can |
These can be converted to conversion factor form, just make sure when you place a conversion factor into factor label the unit being converted is being canceled out like this

The unit "can" is being canceled out to get the number of olives
Factor labels can have more than one conversion factor. For Example:
