Even though I leave her in the water all year, I winterized her (cleaned the bilge, drained the fresh water tank, and checked the heater.) The Scallywag needed some work around the engine mount and transom. Check the project page for more maintenance (woodwork and sealing chain plates)..
My friend, Mike, bought a Hunter 27 and I was lucky enough to shake out the sails aboard her.
Dove my friend Earl's boat to check the keel and rudder for barnacles. Dove another friend', Don W's, boat to check his zincs, props, and shafts. He's a M/V guy, but also has a sailboat.
The first lap went well. Unbeknownst to me, on the second lap, my engine had slid back into the water causing some drag. Without that resistance, I would have easily finished third.
Regardless, a fun time was had by all!
I thought I knew about sailing. These guys are taking me to a whole new level!!! To be honest, being a grinder is worth the work for the sailing lessons I'm receiving.
With my family, the Arthurs, and Emily's friend Jack, I had 9 people aboard.
All the boats hang lights and we become a parade on the water. Santa is on the last boat. Once back at the marina, there's a tree lighting ceremony.
