None But The Brave! A true test weeding out the faint of heart! This year was no exception, with NW wind gusts up to 35 mph and four foot waves crashing over the bow. Only five boats ventured forth. Mark (aboard Crescendo) acted as commitee boat. After a terrible start (spotted the fleet a full 15 minutes), the crew (three MPs and an old MCAS New River sailor, Mary Mortimer), decided to get drunk! They were great help on the first lap. The second round of the course was a bit more challenging. Note to self: HIDE THE RUM!!! One boat, Free Willy, did not finish. A couple others tore sails. It was an experience!!! Scallywag and I finished third of five.

The first ever GROUNDHOG DAY race! There was little wind during the skipper's meeting. With no committee boat; the five boats who came out did a gentleman's start. Luckily, the wind picked up as we rounded the windward mark. Boats just flew to the finish and many chose to stay out just for the ideal sailing. Friend Duane and his son, Jonathan, crewed. Scallywag finished fourth of five. It's great to sail in February. Wish I was on my way to the Bahamas....Hahahaha!

Had another "informal" outting. Four boats from the RPYC came out to practice starts. Scallywag sailed with me, my daughter Sarah, and a potential buyer named Chas. The wind was light, but built as the day went on. In contrast to last year's St Patty's Day, it was MUCH nicer! At one point, we hung up on a bouy and I had to jump into 50 deg water to unwrap the line from the rudder... BRRRR!!! No worries....

SOLD Scallywag today to Chas Scarantino. Seems like a good guy. I hope he'll take good care of her. I have mixed feelings: sad to see her go, but its a necessary evil if I'm to get the boat I really want to cruise in to the Bahamas. Wish me luck finding my new boat. And, if you see that red, white, and blue striped jib; wish Chas fair wind and following seas! When I get the new boat, I'll put a link to it here:
