A RAA PASTOR DE SHETLAND NO BRASIL |
SHELTIES IN BRAZIL - Part Oneby Eduardo Scherrer and Antonio Costa Dalle Piagge ( Toninho )The history of Shelties in Brazil began in the 60's , when some Shetlands were brought into the country, but they did not have any offspring so this first attempt on settling them here did not succeed. In the southern states of Brazil due to the nearness of Uruguay and Argentina, where the breed was fairly developed, new attempts on bringing Shelties into Brazil were made, but results were again unsuccessful. . Perhaps good will and pure intentions could not overcome lack of knowledge about the Breed. Only at the end of the 70's was the breed successfully settled with a desirable quality when some American Shelties were brought in ( though in a small quantity) . Since then the breed began to become better known with a lot of effort on the part of some Brazilian breeders. By that time Mrs Virginia Ristori and Mr Antonio " Toninho" Dalle Piagge and later Mrs Vania Telles brought Shelties from the US or Shelties with American blood lines from Argentina. The first male imported by Toninho was Stonewall Am I Blue - born in 1967- a Peter Pumpkin grandson bought from Mr Carlo Sanmartino. Another Peter grandson was Glenn Hill Royalty born in 1980 who is present in many pedigrees of Brazilian Shelties. Banchory The Crusader was a Peter Pumpkin son who was brought to Brazil by Toninho. Following the Banchory line, Toninho brought from Argentina the female Easy de La Alborada. Later, Toninho became a friend of Steve Barger and bought a brood bitch from him who gave birth three days after she arrived here. The litter had four females and one male. Toninho kept one of the females named Menina ( girl in Portuguese ). Mainstay Make My Day was his couch potato and was the only one among several Shelties and Collies who lived inside his house.
