| I loved this movie! I know there are many people who will disagree with me but that's 'cause they can't distance themselves from the original. I think Tim Burton did a great job. The effects are great and as usual his visuals are stunning. I particularly liked the color scheme: bright but with this creey undertone. As with most Burton films the movie has this dark under belly which makes it a totally differnt movie. It's not a remake people! Johnny Depp gave his own twist to Willy Wonka making him childish yet cruel somehow, eventually losing that and becoming a better person. The kids who win the tickets are mean and hateful little kids you'd never want. I was amazed at how quickly Burton developed them and their parents' characters immediately giving them depth. The oompa loompa songs are quite eerie and I liked the story behind them. As a whole the oompa loompas are quite strange and creepy. The movie retains its moral it just doesn't give you the big speech at the end to make sure you got it and Burton put in his own: Candy doesn't have to have a point that's why it's candy. |
