| Where does one start with such an awesomely bad movie? Do we begin with the awful battle scenes, bad accents or too much homosexuality? Decisions, decisions. I think I'll start with the story. The story is simple it follows Alexander the Great (ColinFarrell) of Rome throughout his life. Ok working with that I should think an experienced director like Oliver Stone should be able to figure out how to cut and edit a film so he's not losing his audience every time a scene changes or a cut is made. What I mean by this is a.) the movies too damn long (the first time I tried to watch it the thought of three hours of it made me turn it off b.) He is jumping back and forth between past and "present" too often for people (the audience) to follow things and get any kind of relationship with any of the characters. (I mean I'm not exactly familiar with the 300 b.c.'s myself). The ending of the film is absolutely ridiculous and badly acted on the part of Colin Farrel but the whole movies a disappointment since as the film goes on it becomes less about Alexander and more about homosexuals. Battle scenes are usually fun to watch in the worst movies but the editing is so bad it's hard to follow what's going on with all the blood flying around and the complex attack methods of the Greek army. Accents: now I have no idea what someone from Greece sounds like but I don't think it's like a drunken Irishman. The fact that Alexander was batting for both teams isn't news, it was common practice then. So there is no reason to cram it down our throats. The second I saw Jared Leto he was eyeballing Farrell which is what he did the entire three hours. The actors in the film are superb actors but they've got nothing to work with. Even Angelina Jolie who I love fell flat and extremely whiny. I just wanted someone to shut her up. This movie was awful Oliver Stone should get himself a cave like Bin Laden because as far as I'm concerned he is now a major threat to the United States. |
