The Beatles

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted,
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be,
There will be an answer, let it be.

John Lennon   Paul McCartney   George Harrison   Ringo Starr

They truly are a legendary band, but what makes them great is the fact that they put their heart and soul into their music. Whether a song be a catchy tune, or not quite so popular, it was written for a reason. You really have to give them some credit for the revolution in rock music. Some of the best songs we know are from the Beatles. Who would've guessed that such hits as "Love Me Do" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" came from the same group? From their early days in Liverpool, England to April 17, 1970 when Paul McCartney announced the final break up of the group, they have had an impact on our lives forever.

In the 1980's, I had heard so many hits from former Beatles but just never knew it. Favorites of mine were "I've Got My Mind Set On You" by George Harrison, "Life and Let Die" by Paul McCartney, "It Don't Come Easy" by Ringo Starr, and "Woman" by John Lennon. You have to admit, You stick these songs together, and you've got a typical Beatle's album. Each one with their own style.

John Lennon's songs were like a tribute to world peace and to those he knew in the past and the present. Songs like "Julia" for his mother, "Woman" for Yoko Ono, and "Imagine" to express a world without fighting.

Paul McCartney's songs were a tribute to everyday lifestyles, so it seemed. He wrote for his beloved wife, Linda, and for his children. Some of his songs even told a little story that played out in your head while listening, while others were just about the normal average person on just a normal average day.

George Harrison's songs reflected the experimental eastern sound with sitars. He sang about the peace that comes with love, but not with flighty overtones. Instead, his music remained subtle, calm, and in the end, had more meaning than "flower children, rainbows, and peace signs".

Ringo Starr's music has always reminded me of learning lessons about life. He was always a sickly child. When he joined the Beatles, was hired into the group...after a good friend (Pete Best) had been fired. Instead of just something to do with friends, I always got the impression that Ringo was with the Beatles because it was a job. Later in life, he overcame an alcoholic addiction, which is one more reason why his songs are about life's lessons learned the hard way.

Any band can write music and be just as successful if not more than The Beatles. They had their favorite Rock 'n' Roll singers as well. Celebs like Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, and many more were icons in the wide eyes of the four young men who "turned left at Greenland" and made it to America.

It Seams Like Only Yesterday
A young Beatles fan travels back in time and runs into her favorite group
(Now I wonder who that might be???) This was an assignment for a 6th grade
writing project.

Fair warning: I don't claim to be an artist. "George Harrison the Mutant" was drawn in High School.
