Film

I have so far used only consumer print films from Kodak and Fuji. Here's a list of films that I have used:

Kodak Gold 200

The first few rolls out of my SLR was a Kodak Gold 200. Colours were accurate and grain was acceptable. The contrast is high, so better crop out the bright skies.

Kodak Max Versatility 400

I chose an ISO 400 for my marriage registration in a church. The church was a small one and it had nice internal lighting. The film was well exposed. Colours were good but the grain was quite noticeable. I use rated at ISO 250

Fuji Superia 200

I had a bad first impression on Fuji. Most of the prints had a greenish tone. I later learned that colour balance could be determined by the photo lab. I decided to give it a second chance. This time, I got it developed by Elite Photo Lab (Kompleks Bukit Jambul, Penang), which did a good job with my earlier Kodak films. The colour was well balanced and grain was fine.

Fuji Superia Xtra 400

I tried this after reading good reviews from the internet. Indeed, this is a good all-rounder. It has good colour rendition and surprisingly fine grain for an ISO400 film. With available light indoors, I could take pictures, without flash, hand-held, using my EF 50mm f/1.8.

Fuji Superia 100

I bought a few rolls for my honeymoon at Pulau Perhentian as most of the shots would be taken in bright sun. Colours were accurate for subjects in bright sun. In low light, I noticed skin tones are reddish. Reds turn out rather unnatural. Prints had fine grain. The images were also very sharp. I am pleased with how this film performed for its intended purpose - subjects in bright sun.

Fuji Superia Reala 100

I bought some for my New Zealand trip. Payed around RM13.00 per roll. Not readily available in Penang - need to make early orders. Colours were accurate. Very happy to get some really colourful results. Prints were sharp and had very fine grain. Avoid taking photos in overcast conditions. When used past expiry date, I rated it at ISO 50.

Fuji Pro 160S

Purchased at RM11 per roll to capture Ying's pregnancy and Gabriel's arrival. Good skin tones - I never knew I could have good complexion! Colors were natural and very fine grain.
