>>The Chambok ecotourism site is a community based project aimed at encouraging the conservation and sustainable use of the forest's natural resources.

>>The project was initiated by Mlup Baitong, a local environmental NGO based in Phnom Penh and operating in several provinces in Cambodia.

>>In Chambok Mlup Baitong offered the essential environmental education, capacity building through training and helped the villagers to build up sustainable income generating activities in order to reduce dependence on wildlife hunting and logging. Community Based Eco Tourism is the alternative income source encouraging the community to protect its natural resources rather than destroying them.

>>By now the tourism site in Chambok is run and managed mostly by the local community itself. The 161ha large forest surrounding Chambok is recovering and in an improving state. Illegal tree cuttings have been successfully minimized in the past few years.

>>Your visit to the site supports the local community's effort to conserve and protect valuable forest, wildlife and water resources. All the revenues of tourism stay within the community and help the villagers in their development.
