I tried to start a new club in here and I can't do it. What is wrong
with this email addy? uwasv_waya@y...
I keep being told that I can only use letters, numbers, or - and _ in
the addy. I have converted all of my addies to the new system.

Hey, Joe -- I don't see anything wrong with the ID you are using.  It may not be that.  Remember, Yahoo! has a bad tendency to say one thing when they mean another.  Take the famous "Club does not exist."-message which sometimes comes up when posting a message to the message board or a photo to album.  It is really saying: "all our resources are tied up, try again later."  In this case, Yahoo! set aside one computer--one machine--to handle Beta Test sites.  Perhaps, and this is just a guess, perhaps it cannot handle the load of all the people converting IDs and trying to create test clubs.  They said early on that they were afraid this would happen and tried to limit the number of people involved in the Beta Test for that reason.

I have now tried multiple times to create a club in here and it still
won't accept my email addy. I have even contacted YG and they told me
where to go and what the procedure is. After doing as they suggested
I sent them a copy of what I'm getting and asked them to tell me what
I'm doing wrong. That was yesterday and I'm still waiting on a
response from them.

hello all
this egroup list was made for you to look around, get
familiar with the set up and DO THINGS. We have lots of new members
and i don't see things happening. I want to see polls made, calendar
events added, whatever. This is a place to do, learn and make
mistakes. This is your training ground for the merge. I don't want
this club to be just another club in your list. One day you will log
on and your clubs will be all different and your members will be all
over you looking for help. Be prepaired!!

Hi,

My name is Robyn, I am a co-founder of a mythology club. Thanks for
giving us this opportunity to play around.

I was looking around and had a couple of questions. In the member
section, my yahoo id isn't displayed. I joined yahoo and egroups
separately but did the conversion wizard thing (does that make me a
member of some cult now?? :-P). Maybe it's just one those glitches,
but I was curious.

Also, in bookmarks, what is the cut and paste for? Is it to move them
between groups? I looked in the Help and, big surprise, it was no
help.

Later, I'd like to try to add a club picture. I'll remove it, of
course. If no one minds, that is.

Thanks again.

Robyn

hi Robyn
after you have done a conversion of both yahoo ID and your addy will your nick show up
yes, after you cut anything a box will show up with the paste option so you can move around files and bookmarks
one thing to note about adding photos to the home page is that now size does matter, whereas yahoo forced it to be a certain size, here they dont yet and a photo could fill up the whole space set aside for founders message
and i dont think you want to know the answer to the cult question :-)

How would I go about putting up a picture on the front page of this
stupid thing...?

I don't see any other pages?
I'm not interested, right now, in doing polls and inviting people,...
what I need to learn is HOW for function as I did as a FOUNDER in
clubs.

I'm having trouble understanding the purpose of this "experimental"
thing...... I played with the color changes --- but nothing came up --
(I understand it is because I am only a member.....) but wanted to
see the effects..........

Is the FILES section supposed to be like the CLUBS Photo section --
or what purpose does it serve?

What does PROMOTE mean ?

WHY do I need to KNOW this -- if Y Groups is still going to have the
CLUBS section?

Not interested in just an email program.... I can do THAT on my own --
just sending out emails and images........ still see NO PURPOSE to
this page.

Hi,

Here's what I've learned so far (somebody correct me if i'm wrong).

>How would I go about putting up a picture on the front page<

When you're made a moderator (aka founder) then go to 'Settings' on
the menu on the left side. Scroll down to Photo and click on edit.
Enter in the url of the picture.

I found out that you cannot upload a picture directly from your
computer like at the clubs. So I uploaded the pict to the Files
section (which yes, is like Photos) and then used that as the url. It
worked.

>Is the FILES section supposed to be like the CLUBS Photo section<

Yes. But instead of grouped in albums, it has folders. You can also
add text files ... like a welcome letter that you can send to new
members (i assume).

>What does PROMOTE mean?<

This is html and picture that members can add to their website that
will serve as an ad/banner for the club/group. At least, that's my
understanding.

>WHY do I need to KNOW this<

Because this is what the new groups are going to be like. Plus or
minus the other changes they make before implementing the new
interface. Members will have the option of having posts mailed to them
or reading them at the group as before.

I hope this helps.

I think I will just have to DIE by the wayside with this thing --
I never did find anything in EDIT that answered HOW to put a picture
(image) on a front page -----------

In the first place -- this TEXT is too small to read--- and the font
being used is TOO PLAIN...... This, added to the frustration and
PISSEDOFFISHNESS of my brain,.. is stressing me out !-- (I made a new
word !!)

Gonna just sit and wait -- and hope that the CLUBS thing will be
FRIENDLIER than what they are showing for GROUPS. -- Surely this is
not happening to us !!!!!!

Still think it's a stinkin' thing to do to us,... but WHEN I GET TO
BE PRESIDENT of Yahoo -- you can all have your communities and clubs
back to normal again ! ... :o)

VOTE for me !

Subject: Files

hello all
Files can be like the old photo section. I am suggesting that when
you get your new Group you make up some folders and give them names
like Photos, Files, Front page etc. One of the problems we have found
with the File area is there is no group and personal settings for
members, either all of files is open to all members or it will
require approval of owner/mod so it could get messy.
No, you can't upload a photo from your puter onto the front page,
but if you have a photo posted somewhere on the web like on a
personal web or a place like Photopoint or just load into files.
Promote is just a place where they have banners, buttons, gifs and
HTML code stored that you can take and add to your personal web site
and it will became a link to your egroup/group.
Reading posts, members will still have the option to have posts
mailed to them. One difference will be that a member with an old
eGroup membership doesn't need a Yahoo ID to read messages, but if an
eGroup member wants to access all of a groups features ie. files then
they will require a Yahoo ID.
Hope this helps a bit.
