Aceh Recent Condition

Aceh is most destroyed over by Tsunami disaster and earthquake in Asia at 26 December 2004. Among others the Tsunami has broken education place. Base on CEWI Foundation  assessment data in the field. Tsunami disaster has broken 567 units schoolhouse and killed hundreds of teachers. Besides of Tsunami disaster, armed conflict between government of Indonesia and Aceh Free Movement during 30 years has pursued development in Aceh. Most complicated problem is many schoolhouses were burned, and hundreds of teachers become the victim of murder. Regions which are often happened with the encounter between governmental army and rebel army result the education activity did not run. During armed conflict happen there are 40 villages which do not conduct the studying and teaching activity. This matter is caused by the teachers do not dare to do education activity. This condition have resulted a lot of children broken the school. In the year 2001, in sub district of Panteraja 200 children cannot continue to school, in sub district of Trienggadeng 50 % of the children age 7-17 years old  broken school, in Bandar Baru sub district 40 % the 12-17 year do not continue the education and in sub district Geulumpang Tiga 30-40 % children unable to defray the school expense. This matter is caused weak of economic family to give the education expense for the children. Above age 17 year as much 20 % cannot continue the education to college. Base on Education department data 70% students in junior high school, senior high school and university experienced stagnancy of mutualism and student intelligence. In the year 2006, 50 % students in Aceh failed in National Examination. This data issued by department of Education in Final National Examination mid of year 2006. Therefore CEWI Foundation has to take the role to overcome the dilemma that faced by the children after Tsunami disaster and endless conflict in Aceh, especially in Pidie district.Research of CEWI Foundation in mid of year 2005, there are some factors causing education to be stagnancy; first effected by armed conflict, data obtained by CEWI Foundation 233 schoolhouses burned in Pidie district and resulted to learning and teaching process burdened, in generally students do not study in the school, because education place (schoolhouses) have been burned, second effected by  Tsunami disaster, data obtained by CEWI Foundation 567 schoolhouses and 162 facility of education supporter have completely destroyed, third quality of teachers it caused by a government less facilitate to resource of all teachers in Aceh so that all the teachers difficult get access to obtain the temporary curriculum for teaching in the school. Fourth inexistence of education media, so students and teachers less obtain information concerning to education which is competence. In July 2005 CEWI Foundation has launched Education Magazine and education Newsletter in two versions Indonesia and of English. Result of CEWI Foundation observation, only 0,3% students and teachers understand English, in March 2006 CEWI Foundation did not longer publish Magazine and of Newsletter due to transition and fund allocation. Result of Assessment in disaster location of tsunami and region ex-armed conflict( after peace government of Indonesia and Free Aceh Movement at 15 August 2005 in Helsinki Finland), CEWI Foundation will conduct education of English Language program and education of computer for students of Junior High School and Senior High School and adolescent of broken school. This program conducted to support quality of education for Aceh generation in the future. Education of English Language and computer can make participants (beneficiaries) improve their knowledge to face globalization and information technology. Computer education program will be executed for 12 months. So that result the expected is 300 students of Junior High school and Senior High School and adolescents of broken school will be able to operate computer system in Sub-Province of Pidie.
