| In 1997 Stoneham voters approved funds to renovate the four elementary schools in the town. This was due to a continuing increase in population, the town's desire to maintain its excellent reputation for education and to address the issue of overcrowding in all of the elementary schools. Two of the elementary schools were to be renovated and enlarged and the two older schools were to be rebuilt.. As Central School celebrated its 100th Anniversary, a (new) Central School was being built nearby. In November of 2001, the new Central School , which was designed to resemble a train station due to its proximity to old railroad tracks, was ready for occupancy. |
