Hi Everybody:
Recently a group of the class of 1957 met for lunch at the Culinary Institute in Central Islip.

The attendees were, Eleanor Steckerider Ruk, Jeanne Greishaber Dorrian, Lois Marhoun McCourt, Dan Devine, and Anna Kurtz Smith.  The food was great!  They offered roast beef, poached salmon, chicken marsala, bouillabaisse, carrots & green beans, fried potatoes, rice pilaf, various salads, assorted homemade breads and rolls, and a table of scrumptious desserts.

A few notes from people who were unable to attend: John O'Kane says Aloha to everyone!  John Buckley sends his regards, he is just recently back from FL and is too busy to socialize right now. The Dunphy's, Pat & Bill would like everyone to know that their oldest grandchild was recently accepted to West Point.  Barbara Lewis Fichter could use some prayers and cards from all of us!  One of her chemo medications didn't work and her tumor has doubled instead of decreasing.

While we were at the luncheon, we found out that the Culinary portion of the college is going to stay in Central Islip.  While there were only five of us in attendance that day, we did have a conversation regarding our 50th Anniversary celebration  which will be in 2007!   While that seems far off, as you know time goes quickly and we need to get a plan in motion.  Initially, Margie Lenz did a survey inquiring how many people would be interested in a cruise to celebrate this milestone. Unfortunately, there was not enough in favor of doing this.  The general consensus seems to be that we hold the reunion in the town that we graduated from.  Keeping this in mind, we need some more input from all of you.  We thought if we tried to turn it into a memorable weekend it might entice more of you to attend.

Some ideas we entertained were to buy a block of tickets for a Long Island Duck's baseball game (which stadium as you may know is right in CI) or buy a block of tickets for a play at one of the area Playhouses.  Any and all suggestions are welcome from all of you.  There was also a suggestion that we try to make the reunion at a time when the firehouse is having tournaments or combine it with the all years picnic that is usually held on the island.
We would like our 50th Reunion to be really memorable for all of us.  In order to do that WE NEED INPUT FROM OUR ENTIRE CLASS OF 1957 TO HELP DECIDE

Some things we need your input is what time of year would be the most convenient for all of you, which would of course impact what activities we could schedule.  We thought if we could fill a weekend it would be more appealing to more of you.  Which is a better time?  June, July, August or September?  Depending on the choice of time, we can either use the NYIT Epicurean Room Restaurant or go back to The Irish Coffee Pub or any other suggestion you might offer us. With all of this in mind would you answer a few questions for us?
1- Location?  local ____ sea_____
2- Time of year?  Spring____Summer____Fall____Winter____
3- Baseball Game?
4- Local play?
5- Picnic?
6- Firemen's tournament?
7-Other activities?
Please share any idea that you might have regarding our 50th celebration, we are open to anything.  What can we do to get all of you back here for this celebration?  Just tell us, we want you here!

Please return your responses back to me so we will have a starting point to work from.  Look forward to hearing from all of you.

 The Florida Alumni Reunion

Saturday February 1st 2003

We have finalized arrangements for our second CI High School Alumni Florida Reunion. The Reunion will be held on Saturday February 1st 2003 The location will be the The Best Western Diplomat Inn at US 98 North and I-4 (Exit 32) in Lakeland, Florida. This is a recently renovated Best Western. They can hold up to 180 in the ballroom. The Hotel has a Comedy Club in their Lounge each Friday and Sat night.

The dinner music etc will cost $32.00 per person. This number has been based on 120 people attending the Reunion. Included will be a cocktail party with a cash bar at 5 PM followed by dinner at 6:30 PM. We will have a DJ provide music with dancing from 8:00 PM till 12:00 AM. A cash bar will be available through the evening. We will try to organize the room so each Class will have their group together.

Last year many people wanted to hang out and talk. It was suggested that we plan something for the second day. For those that want to stay a second day we have planned a cookout by the pool. The second day cookout will cost $13.00. We have planned this for approx 1:00 PM in the pool area.

If there is enough interest, we will set up a golf tournament for Friday at approx 12:00 PM at the Wedgewood Country Club located approx 2 miles north of the Best Western.

At this time I need to know the number of people that will attend this reunion. If you plan to attend please let us know ASAP. I have attached a registration form to this email. You can print it out and send it back with a check made out to Alice Mann for the $32.00 per person to cover the Dinner and if you plan to stay for the second day cookout enclose $13.00 each to cover the cookout. I would like to get all the registration forms and the money by the first of Jan 2003. The hotel has put aside rooms for us and will hold them until December 31st.  The cost will be $59.00 per night plus tax and includes a full breakfast each day. Please make your reservation with the Best Western Inn as soon as you can. You can contact Best Western at 863-688-7972 or 800-237-4699 and mention the CI Alumni Reunion to insure you are given our special rate.

I will mail out info to everyone on my mailing list over the next two weeks. If you would like to attend and I do not already have your address, please email me your mailing address and I will forward the info and registration form.

1957 CIHS "CLASS REUNION"

Sat. - Sept. 27, 2003

Our "first reunion" at the Irish Coffee Pub turned out great....
.It couldn't have been better !!!

The gals did a "great job" with the decorations, prizes & the "BETTER LATE than NEVER" banner.

Anna Kurtz spoke about how our reunion got started after 46 years &  John Buckley welcomed everyone & told a very funny "Class Reunion" story.

All the "Alumni" introduced themselves and their guests, and said a few words about  their personal lives.

Anna Kurtz then gave out the following gifts:
The alumni who traveled the farthest to attend the reunion - Terri Nunez ( Arizona )
The alumni who had the most children -  Brenda Conning
The only couple in our class that got married to each other - Patti (Cox) & Bill Dunphy

Everyone had such a great time, as they were so excited to see each other after all these years..............We had 42 people including Mr. Markey & Mr. Christian.

And to top it off, their was an "after hours party" at Jack Menechino's house which was
the grand finale to a "great night",  we will all remember for a long time !!!

The next day we had a "brunch" at the Paradise Diner in Hauppauge.

Our next reunion will be our 50th Anniversary in 2007........

"Better Late than Never"

 The All Years Picnic 2003

 and

The Jason Fund

From Wally '73: Just to let everyone know "The Reunion Weekend" went great and from what all said they had a great time. We would like to thank all who helped on it and donated prizes. Someone said we had about 250 people. We don't  know for sure because many didn't sign in. We had 93 signins. Then add their families we had a great turnout!

We raised $2050.00 for The Jason Fund which we want thank everyone for.

From Toni '73: I want to thank EVERYONE who helped make the fundraiser for Jason such a success. Jackie Sunday '73 made a BEAUTIFUL basket that was raffled off, Wally a basket of wine, Deb Ross' sis Karen made a BEAUTIFUL baby sweater & another relative a blanket. Also everyone who helped in getting donations, did leg work & really pushed selling the raffle tickets.
Jason's mom was overwhelmed when I told her how well we did. She is so very thankful, as is Jason.
Thanx again to everyone!!!!!!!!!

 The Jason Fund

Jason is a 10th grader from CI high school who has Duechenne. (a form of muscular dystrophy)       The money was raised to purchase portable ramps so he can visit people. All left over money will help pay for any repairs on the family van and to any medical needs. Jasons mom is a single parent.

From Arlene '66: Congrads to you Bruce '67 you won $100  in the $5  raffle!

From Lois '74: Thank you to the committee for such a great reunion weekend. The cocktail party, the breakfast, the dinner/dance and the picnic. Everything was so great!!!!!! You all did a fantastic job. I want you to know I personally appreciated all that was done.

I loved seeing you all and getting to know those of you that I didn't hang out with but now feel I know.

Reunion Weekend 2003

From Brian Doherty '74 :  Friday was the 'informal cocktail hour' at the Holiday Inn. Lots of alumni, not just from 71-74, but from 78, too. Drinks were drunk, raffle tickets were sold, and lots of conversation.  There was a man from TX who saw that we were having a fund-raiser for The Jason fund. He bought about 5 dollars worth of tickets and said that if he won to put his winnings back into the raffle, as he thought it was nice to see a group of friends doing such a great thing. His tickets came up TWICE on Sunday! I hope that if he had a negative impression of NY'ers when he arrived, that his thoughts were different when he left.

Jim Parise came and he looked great! (Seems like every time someone retires, they look 5 years younger!) As for me, I met up with people I hadn't seen since before graduation in 74. Lois Elwood came in from CA, Steve Van Houten came in from AZ., and a lot of other people, too. Kevin Hande and his wife Darlene (CIHS 1975) came unexpectedly. Met up with Bill Pantin and his lovely wife Christina. They were a little jet-lagged, but Bill hung in there. I haven't mentioned everybody, but I wound up leaving early, so I don't know who came later. (Unfortunately, I forgot to give Helen her Reunion Chicken!)

(Saturday got a little fouled up on my end. I messed up the time for the breakfast and had something planned for the same time. I apologized to Debi about not being able to make it, but I think everyone knows about my 'time management' difficulties!)

Saturday night was great!  I don't dance, so that was out, but most of the attendees danced all night long. The food was great and the music was too. The DJ did a great job. Good selection of music, and best of all, NOT TOO LOUD! A lot of memories and a lot of fun. Maureen did a great job with the pictures. Good thing, too. I was too busy running around talking to do the photo stuff. Group and 'table' pictures were taken and will be posted when they arrive.

The committee all pitched in and gave Wally a gift certificate for all of the hard work he did.

Lot of people at the picnic on Sunday.  Raffles were drawn - hey! I WON SOMETHING! A NY Mets poster donated by the post office and Jackie Sunday! More good food, drink, and conversation. We had the first representatives from the classes of 93 and 94: My next-door neighbor Brian Story from 1993 and my son Rob from the class of 1994. My son learned some things about me that I hadn't told him, but nothing too shocking. At least not from what I've been told.

So many memories... a great weekend all around.

 The Kevin Bracken Scholarship Fund.

Dear Everyone,

I just didnt want to end my day without a great big thanks to all of you you helped, donated, and bought tickets for The Kevin Bracken Scholarship Fund.

Debi, once again your talent for getting folks to give astonishes me. Thank you so much for all the hard work and time you put into getting the donations.

Jackie, thanks so much for the 9/11 photo. It was beautiful and was won by Nancy 74.

Dave and Busters gave a $25 gift certificate which Wally won, and try as he might couldnt get Nancy to trade with him. LOL!

We had 2 gift baskets from the employess of the Starbucks in Islandia. Each employee donated something to the baskets which had bags of coffe and free drink coupons and a $5 gift card. Ironically both baskets were won by Jackie!  Hope you like coffee!! (They make a really great hot choclate there too with whip cream and everything.)

{The grand prize was a gift certificate for a free nights stay with a complimentary breakfast at the Holiday in where you all had your reunions on Saturday. That was won by a member of the class of 83 whose name at the moment escapes me and I am so sorry.}

We raised $110 this year and on behalf of myself, Chris, Elena and Debi I'd like to thank you all  for helping us out once again. The spirit of giving in this little circle of ours is always amazing to me.

Speaking of spirit of giving and amazing people, I hear The Jason Fund raffle went REALLY well and we are so happy that it was such a success. I spoke to Toni today and she told me all about Jason. He sounds like a great kid and I hope you all raised enough... no..., more than enough to get the ramps and maybe have some left over to do more for him. Congrats to you on such a successful fundraiser.

I was also so happy to see a large group from the class of 83 at the picinc this year. I got to see some folks I havent seen in a while and lets face it, It was nice not being the baby of the group again!! LOL I'm just teasing you know I love you all!!!

Love to all
Ardeen

 The 1983 Class Reunion

The 1983 class reunion was a great success. We had 105 attendees. The after party at Brennan's was fun - and we were treated to a visit from some alumni that could not make the reunion - George Lynagh, Gloria McBride, Myron McCray. It was wonderful to see all those familiar faces ... and believe it or not, many of us have not changed much.

Keith Spencer won the 50/50 raffle, a prize valued at $181. The alumni journal will be printed and mailed out shortly. We were able to collect quite a bit of contact information, including classmates who could not attend the reunion.

Keep your eyes open for a newsletter/questionaire in the future and please respond. Please send eileen any neat photos from the reunion.

A word of thanks to Tracy Lehrer, Audrey Horn and Audrey's daughter for making the photo display at the registration table.

Looking forward to the 25th.

Thanks all,
Colleen Cooney

All Alumni Breakfast (2003)

The All Alumni Breakfast at the Grafton STreet Pub on July 26th 2003  was intimate & the food was great!

Bill (Pantin) and his wife Chrisitina were there, Danny Robles and his family his 2 brothers and his sis in law Evelyn Mentock. Lois Elwood and her son, myself, Helen Carew, Judy Antonucci and I know I am forgetting someone.

We were all pretty tired from the previous evening but we made it there droopy eyes and all. Several of those who WANTED to come.....wound up @ the wrong place (but we won't mention Brians Name!)  but it was nice.  The guests came in and the food was ready to rock and roll.

Helen said next year the Fri night before the picnic they do Karaoke and if CI people want to hang she'll give us a drink discount for 2 hours.
ciao for now

WHO: The classes of the 80's.
WHEN: Sunday, August 19 at Heckscher State Park in East Islip
TIME: From 10am to 7pm.
COST: $10 donations from each attendee

My sister and I are in the process of planning an "Unofficial High School Reunion Barbecue" for the classes of the 80's.

The plan is to get together to reminisce and reconnect with old friends, buddies and aquaintances. You can help by spreading the word to all those that you kept in contact with over the years and refer them to us.

Sunday, August 19 at Heckscher State Park in East Islip from 10am to 7pm. We are asking for $10 donations from each attendee to help fray the cost of the permit, DJ and other incidentals (Children under the age of 5 are free). We are also asking you to bring a dish, just a pan of something or a case of something or another. Or, if you like you can bring and cook on the grill. We will discuss your part when you contact us. The permit allows us to bring in Beer and Wine.

We sure hope that you will be able to attend!

Pass this along to EVERYONE!
