The Centaur Show is coming up again - July 29, 2006 at Southern Cross Stables (clinic on the 30th) - and we are bursting with excitement. We are sending out a call to everyone and anyone they know, who might like to volunteer in any way. There are a million and one ways to help out so just send us an e-mail.
We are having a fence-painting day on Sunday at 10am at Southern Cross in the outdoor arena. Please feel free to drop by and pick up a paintbrush! That's July 16th. (Shine only - we can't paint in the rain!)
Lastly, it is only through our sponsors that we can provide our shows, so if you know of anyone that would like to sponsor a class or an award please e-mail Kerry their contact information.
Cloverdale Tack & Supply will be moving from Topsail Road to our barn at 671 Logy Bay Road at the end of March. From the 20-31 of March we will be offering 15% discount on all in store stock. All western saddle pads & blankets will be selling off at 1/2 price.

CEC's much anticipated "Mock Event" went off with great success on October 2, 2005 at King Ranch in Portugal Cove. Officially named the Centaur Horse Trials, the innaugural running of the event featured nine riders, four of whom competed in all three phases of the trials in hopes of claiming the title of Overall Horse Trial Champion. The three phases of the event consisted of dressage, cross-country, and show jumping. The cross-country course, now a permanent fixture at King Ranch, proved to be both challenging and safe. Congratulations to all the riders who came out and tested their skill and courage! We look forward to seeing you and many more next year!

On August 14 & 15, 2005, Clovelly Riding Stable hosted a very successful dressage clinic and schooling show with Lynn Deturk of Ann Arbor, Michigan. The purpose of this clinic and schooling show was to help riders, parents, and coaches gain a better understanding of basic dressage. For more information about the results, or future clinics & shows contact Susan Quigley. Phone: (709)739-4027. Email [email protected] or [email protected].
On July 31, 2005 many horses and riders braved the unco-operative elements to compete in CEC's Classic Horse Show at Cloverdale Farm. There were lots of jumping classes this year, as well as a variety of flat classes in english and western, and of course the requisite gymkhana classes that are always a crowd pleaser. This year CEC added the Centaur Cloverleaf, in honour of the host facility, which was a tangley series of twists and turns. Congratulations to all of the riders who stuck it out through the rain and rode home in the sun!
On June 5, 2005 CEC co-hosted a trail ride to the Goulds pasturelands with Dixie H Farm, as part of Equine Canada's Horse Week "Ride & Drive Day". The ride was very successful with riders joining in from four local barns. The weather was stunning and all hands and hooves enjoyed themselves immensely, even with the uninvited flies!
Due to scheduling difficulties, the nutirition clinic that Centaur had planned to host with local veterinarians did not come to be last month. The idea though is not scrapped, merely postponed, until a compatible schedule can be reached.
The location of Centaur's Annual Classic Horse Show is still undecided. It has been decided not to return to last year's location at Beaverbrook Stable, and as Centaur is not affiliated with any one facility, we like to keep moving around. Alternate locations are being considered and members will be advised as soon as possible.
Centaur would like to encourage all members to save their unwanted or unused equipment to donate to HAPPA-NL. They are in need of everyday items such as halters, leads, buckets, brushes, shoes, feed, hay, dewormers and medicines. If you have anything you wish to donate please contact Jessica Pallard. [email protected].
The fundraising committee is gearing up for another busy season and is seaking anyone who would like to assist. We have out show canteen to man and sponsors to find.
The Fundraising Committee is asking for input. The committee is planning its first Annual Centaur Night at the Movies. Recognizing that one must make hay while the sun shines, or ride for that matter, the tentative date will be the early fall when we all have time to climb out of the tack! To that end, we would like to have your opinion concerning movie choices:
1. Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron
2. Pirates of the Caribbean
3. A Knight's Tale
4. Shrek
5. King Arthur
6. Other - please specify.
You can contact the fundraising committee with your thoughts, or any other ideas for fundraisers, at [email protected] or 781-1313.
There is a new equine group that needs your interest and support. Horse and Pony Protection Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (HAPPA-NL) is the operating organization for the Hopeall Equine Sanctuary in Trinity Bay.
They provide care for all equines, ponies, horses, donkeys, who were previously unwanted or neglected, providing them with grazing, space, feed, veterinary care, shelter, and love. They are a non-profit charity and are entirely operated by volunteers on a year-round basis. They have a rehabilitation and adoption program, as well as a retirement program for those equines deemed unadoptable. They are in constant need of interest, support, and donations of time, money and equipment.
Centaur Equestrian Club would like to ask its members to help support this worthy and necessary cause. If you have any extra basic and/or daily horse care equipment or items (halters, brushes, buckets, medical supplies, etc.) that are in good condition, or would like to donate your time or support, or would just like more information:
Contact John or Elke Molgaard at 726-0719.
