This year, and especially one particular evening, will remain in Celine and Rene's memory as a very special event. The Eurovision Song Contest held in Dublin. Swiss had asked Celine to represent their country with the song "Ne partez pas sans moi" ("Don't leave without me"), and the song did very well. It won, actually.
But that's not the best part. When the party was over, and everybody went to their hotelrooms, the night had just started for Celine and Rene. Rene followed Celine to her room, and told her what he saw, what he'd felt and what to do better. The same thing as he did every time she'd appeared on a stage. But when he was finished, he slowly rose up from the foot of the bed, and said goodnight.
Every night since their first tour in Quebec, he'd said goodnight with a kiss on her cheek. But not this time. So Celine got off her bed, and closed the door before he managed to get out. "You haven't kissed me yet, Rene Angelil", she said with a lowered voice. She suddenly wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him on the mouth. He gave into it for a second or two; then he turned around and fled to his room. She couldn't manage speaking for a long time afterwards; she just stood there; dumbfounded and happy as never before. She knew she'd won.
A few minutes later, the phone rang. It was Rene. "Are you okay?" he asked. "If you really want to, I'll be your first". "You'll be my first and my only one," Celine replied before hanging up.
