Watercolour
Books:
Painting
the Spirit of Nature by Maxine Masterfield
(Watson-Guptill 1996 ISBN 0-8230-3867-X)
A
great guide to experimental painting with watercolour inks - colourful,
dramatic and fun - just makes you want to try something new.
Making
Colour Sing by Jeanne Dobie (Watson-Guptill
1986 ISBN 0-8230-2993-X)
A
structured guide to creating watercolour paintings - in particular,
how to use colour and composition. An excellent resource.
Pen
and Ink Books:
The
Technical Pen by
Gary Simmons (Watson Guptill 1992 ISBN 0-8230-5227-3)
This
is one of my favourite books because it is so full of wonderful examples
of pen and ink technique as well as plenty of instruction.
The wide variety of pen and ink styles is covered, including hatching
and pointillism, in a systematic and detailed way.
If you want basic "how to" or tips on improving your style
this is and excellent book.
For
the Love of Simple Linework
by Arvind Narale (Canadian Stage and Arts Publications
Ltd., Toronto 1994 ISBN 0-919952-37-2)
Another
wonderful book full of beautifully drawn images by an expert draftsman.
This isn't a book particularly about pen and ink technique, but it
will inspire you to draw more and in different ways - and he makes
it all look so easy !

This
is a great site, put together by my graphic design teacher, Melissa
Schatzmann.
Melissa uses the pointillism technique to produce very detailed wildlife
drawings as well as portraits.
Visit this site to view all her artwork, info on technique and other
good links.
