Characters
Goku
Goku is naive and funny. He likes to eat as much as he likes to fight (and he still manages to stay in good shape). Goku is good natured and is a loving person that doesn't want to punish anyone that doesn't deserve it. His kindness usually gets him into trouble, but Goku usually gets himself out of it. Goku is a Saiyan from the planet Vegeta.
He is one of the few full-blooded Saiyans left after Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta. He is full blooded, but Goku would rather be an Earthling. When Goku was a little boy, he was sent to Earth and eradicate all life force. Fortunately he loses his memory and becomes a happy, normal child living with his adopted grandfather Gohan. He marries Chi Chi later on (that was in DB). DBZ opens up with Goku and his friends going to Master Roshi's island for a get together. There, his son Gohan is introduced. He then has another son that looks and acts exactly like him. Goku dubs him "Mini-Me" when he is first born but his real name is Goten. Throughout the story, Goku fights evil to protect helpless planets like Earth and Namek.

Gohan
Gohan is the son of Goku and Chi Chi and he obviously has Saiyan blood running through his veins. Gohan received his first serious martial arts training from Piccolo through some very tough training which required him to survive by himself in the wild and fight against Piccolo. This training made Gohan quiet strong and was the first step to revealing Gohan's hidden powers. Whenever Gohan gets angry, his power level sky rockets and even when he hadn't even trained, it shot up to 1400. That's a lot of power for a little kid. Once Gohan reaches his adolescent years, Gohan loses the brat in him and becomes a strong fighter like his father. Gohan surpasses his fathers power level, if you take in the fact that Gohan in a kid and Goku is a grown man anyway. Gohan is also a great fan of Piccolo and he's pretty much Piccolo's only "friend." Much later in DBZ, Gohan goes to college and meets a girl named Videl. Gohan's mother, Chi Chi, pressures Gohan into marring Videl because she's just as smart as he is. In the end, Gohan marries Videl and has a daughter named Pan.

Goten
Goten is the second son of Goku and Chi Chi and Gohan's little brother. He and Chibi Trunks spend most of their time together and are really good friends. Chibi Trunks is one year older than Goten is. Anyway, Goten exhibited a high power when he went Super Saiyan at the age of seven. Goten is Goku's "Mini-Me" because of the strong resemblance. They have the same hair style and Goten wears something similar to what Goku usually wears. Goten also shares the same appetite as Goku. Goten is usually happy, but he has a specialty for throwing temper tantrums which get him something he wants. Unlike Gohan, Chi Chi didn't push Goten to study to become a scholar.

Trunks
Trunks is the son of Vegeta and Bulma. He likes to hang out with Goten and they are kind of like brothers. He reached Super Saiyan when he was eight, I think. That's in the time line where Baby Trunks grows up to be Chibi Trunks. Future Trunks (to the right) came from the future to help fight the androids who threaten Earth's existence. They are the same person, but from different time lines. And the only time when the two of them are together is when Trunks comes back from the future and the Trunks in that time line is only a baby. When Chibi Trunks and Goten are together, Chibi Trunks has a tendency to get them into some sort of trouble. Despite all the trouble that he gets Goten and himself in trouble, he means well.

Vegeta
Vegeta is the prince of all Saiyans and is one of the most powerful Saiyans. When Vegtea was a young boy he surpassed his father's power level despite his age. Vegeta had dreamed of being the most powerful of the Saiyans and being a legendary Super Saiyan. He knew that there were other, more powerful races, but he would be the best of all the Saiyans. Vegeta makes his first appearance with his partner, Nappa. Vegeta comes to Earth with Nappa and the wreak havoc, destroying buildings and killing people. Nappa also does a number on the Z Fighters (who were all weak at the time).
Once Goku gets back from King Kai's place, he makes short work of Nappa who is then killed by Vegeta. Vegeta challenges Goku to a fight after Goku refuses to fight on Vegeta's side. They fight and it becomes evident to Vegeta that Goku is stronger and that gets Vegeta very mad. Vegeta goes Oozaru and beats Goku up. Goku isn't able to go Oozaru because his tail has been permanently been cut off. Through the rest of the story line Vegeta gets closer and closer to Goku's side. Vegeta is always angry at not being as strong as Goku and tries everything in his power to beat Goku. Vegeta gets married to Bulma and is then father to Trunks.

Piccolo
Piccolo is the evil half of Kami. He is a Namekian, which is a "alien" from the planet Namek. He used to fight with Goku a lot, but once Raditz, Goku's older brother, arrived on Earth, Piccolo and Goku teamed up and stopped fighting each other. In the end, Piccolo uses his special beam cannon on Raditz and finished Goku off along with him (Goku was holding Raditz). Don't worry, Goku gets wished back with the dragon balls. After Piccolo and Goku teamed up to defeat Raditz they slowly became more of a team. When the threat of more Saiyans coming to Earth (Vegeta and Nappa) Piccolo took up the job to train Gohan. Piccolo was really the one who really took the first step in revealing Gohan's hidden powers.

Krillin
Krillin is a great character and he's extremely funny. Krillin is an Earthling, a quite strong Earthling mind you. In fact, he's one of the strongest Earthlings. Krillin doesn't have a nose, for what reason I don't know, and it's replaced by six little dots on his forehead. He's also very short (he's a little taller than baby Gohan). Krillin is bald, but then he gets hair later on after he marries Android #18 and he becomes a father to his daughter Marron. Krillin doesn't get along well with Piccolo, well, hardly anybody gets along with Piccolo.

Yamcha
Yamcha is one of the few Earthling warrior in the Z Fighters Crew. He's good friends with a shape-shifting cat named Puar. When Yamcha first met Goku, they fought because Goku wouldn't pay tax for crossing the desert which Yamcha "owned." Yamcha was the first warrior to die in the battle against Vegeta and Nappa, but he was wished back with the dragon balls. Yamcha has huge scars on his face. There's an x-like scar on his left cheek and a scar going through his right eye. You know what I mean right?

Tienshinhan
Tienshinhan or usually referred to as Tien is an Earthling warrior of the Z Fighters. He's about Goku's height and pretty muscular. Tien, although being an Earthling, has three eyes. Two of them are regular and the third one is on his forehead, but it doesn't move or anything. Tien is the developer of the useful attack Solar Flare. In DB Tien was sort of boyfriend to Lunch/Kushami (when she sneezes she changes her personality and appearance). They were very close, but then in DBZ Lunch/Kushami was never mentioned again. Makes you wonder what happened, huh?

Chaotzu
Chaotzu is a small white dwarf who is the companion of Tien. He is not an Earthling. Chaotzu is the prince of his very own planet. Which planet, I have no clue. Chaotzu has ESP, which allows him to fly, freeze opponents in place and manipulate objects. Chaotzu is fairly strong, but is one of the weaker warriors of the Z Fighters.

Bulma
Bulma is Trunks' mother and the wife of Vegeta. Bulma is one of the few girls/women in Dragon Ball. She's a genius with mechanics and computers. She was the one on the Z Team that figured out how scouters worked. During the beginning of DB and DBZ, Bulma has a huge crush on Yamcha, but she overcame it and married Vegeta. In DB Bulma has purple hair, but in DBZ and DBGT she has blue hair. Speaking of her hair, she so many number of different hair styles it's not funny. It's like every saga she has at least two different hair styles. Bulma can't fight at all, but her expertise in technology makes her a worthy ally. Then again, she can be annoying. Bulma is high strung and spoiled, but she is true to the end when someone she cares about needs help.

Chi Chi
Chi Chi is mother to Gohan and Goten and wife to Goku. Chi Chi feels very strongly of Gohan's studies and will stop at nothing to make sure that Gohan studies and becomes smart, unlike his father Goku. When Goten comes around, Chi Chi doesn't push him to study. I guess she finally figured out that you can't make a Saiyan study if he doesn't want to. Chi Chi's father is Ox King and her mother was never mentioned. Chi Chi is a princess, of what I don't know. Chi Chi thinks that martial arts are a waste of time, even though she is a good fighter compared to everyone else on Earth. She is, in fact, one of the strongest women on Earth. When she was little (in DB) she was a carefree girl that loved to fight and get into mischief, but when she got married, she stopped and became a house wife. Chi Chi is very protective of her family and will stop at no cost to protect them. In other words, don't mess with her.

There are so many more characters in DBZ, but those are pretty much the main ones. I'd do more profiles on more characters, but I think I'll just stop here. If I went on, then you'd be reading this page for who knows how long. Some other characters that you might what to brush up on would be: Master Roshi, Videl, Pan, Oolong, Puar, Lunch/Kushami and all the bad guys.
