| Friday July 27th 2002 Tried to updated this site at work today and discovered the firewall menace has extended to cover all of Geocities - so as of now I can no longer have anything to do with this site at work. Guess I'll have to find something else to do with my lunch hours. I can do it at home (obviously, since I'm now making this entry) but it's a heck of a lot slower on my 9hrs a month modem connection, and probably less frequent. There's a chance the firewall curtain will lift a bit; I'll keep checking. I've definitely been getting some challenging work on the job lately. I'm doing a major project for the web site that involves a ton of Perl scripting, which I only know the most basic rudiments of. Seems like every time I go to type a line, I have to look something else up. Maybe once I get through this mess I'll actually take a Perl course. :) In the meantime, the teach-myself method seems to work - no roadblocks so far. There's someone at work who's become allergic to her two cats, and she's posted pictures of them in the kitchen area with her phone number, looking for a good home. I've been thinking off and on about getting a cat for a while now, and these ones are pretty cute - I stop and look at the pictures again whenever I'm in there. But two cats seems like a lot for a one-bedroom apartment, and I wouldn't have the heart to just take one of them. I guess I'll have to settle for a while yet with Lynx, my Microsoft Word assistant. I hate the damn paperclip - don't we all - but in Word XP you can switch it to this little cartoon cat that flicks his tail, walks in circles, sleeps on his back, bats at butterflys - who cares what help he has to offer, I just keep him around cause he's cute. I'm working on one of my short stories again, one of the ones I wrote for my critique class. A couple of my fellow alumni students have asked me about it and suggested markets where I could submit it. I don't know if the markets are appropriate but I like the encouragement, so I'm having a go at it. One of them has reviewed the first couple of chapters from my book so I'm looking forward to getting together and discussing that. Nothing too exciting planned for my weekend: gotta visit the bank and CAA, want to do some rollerblading and go back to Stittsville market. See ya'll on Monday, enjoy your weekend. |
