I had my story reviewed in writing class last week and it was well received.  I was a bit nervous going in, but they brought up some great points I hadn't considered and it generated a lot of interesting, relevant discussion where my own writing style is concerned.  I turned in a second one, but it probably won't get reviewed until next week.  I haven't decided whether I'll attempt to improve these after comments, or not.  Maybe not, since it would take a lot of time, and for me the most important thing is to hear the comments and get a sense of where I need to improve my writing in general.

I'm beginning to think I won't be posting my stories here after all; you can thank the Geocities interface for that.  It won't allow me to paste in text from anywhere else, so if I'm going to share my story with you I'd have to retype it - and that's about as much fun as it sounds.

Speaking of writing, I watched an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer last night.  I'm not a huge fan, but that show is just so weird I usually end up watching it whenever I happen to catch it.  Weird in a good way, though.  I read an article about it that proposed it has the least appreciated writing of any series going, and I can see where they're coming from.  At one point in this episode, Buffy updates a long lost friend on everything he missed this season.  They look at each other,  and burst out laughing.  It was a nice bit of self-recognition over how preposterous the storylines can sometimes be; yet where another show might try it and look ridiculous, this one manages to pull it off consistently.  And its dialogue cannot be beat.  That's writing worth admiring, whatever your genre.

So, what else is new and exciting?  Had three cavities filled last week, if you can call them cavities.  Dentist #1 says I'm good to go for nine months; dentist #2 comes in at the last minute and says I have three cavities, see you on Monday.  It didn't take any freezing, and I was out of there in half an hour, so I think they were more like divots.  There is, however, a rather large cavity in my wallet now.  Draw your own conclusions.

There is also a mysterious hole somewhere in my van's steering fluid line.  I could bring it in for a repair, or I could buy some off the shelf stuff that claims it has 'stop leak protection'.  Methinks I will opt for the $6 solution before I try the $250 solution, what say?
