The Peaceful world of Dee
5/18/04

It's been a couple of months since I last updated my ranting and Peaceful World.  I had no idea that people checked it regularly to see what I was going to bitch about next.  I am really not a cynical person, but I think the media floods our head so much, that reality and hype become lost in the day to day grind of our daily lives.  I hope if anything my blurb makes you question something.

Alot has been focused inthe media.  There is so much hype week to week, that it all becomes a thing of the past until the next big news story.  Can any of us recall what the big news story was 3 weeks ago?  It is evident when you turn on CNN week after week.

Well the good news and new laws.  Same sex couples can now legally marry as a 'Civil Union' in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  Although it is not recognized as a 'marriage',  I am so happy to be have lived in a time where discrimination is slowing becoming a thing of the past.  Our country has come a long way. But has it?

The history of our United States, has been war after war.  Our brave military, which I might add, are paid merely enough to get by have been fighting for our freedom, and assisting other countries in becoming what we like to call more 'democratic'.   Yet,  rights of others on foreign soil seem more important than our own.  Our government is so busy focusing on the rest of the world, and protecting our freedoms on foreign soil, that they seem to overlook our freedoms and ??wars at home.  Be it healthcare, hunger, the homeless, terminal illness, poverty, unemployment - (the list is simply too long), or simply the right to be in love and marry who they choose.  When we do find resolution, why not  does our government fight to keep these issues ongoing?  Are they afraid that they might end up unemployed, without healtcare, or in poverty... and become what so many taxpayers are?

When we question and fight for our own rights here in our own country, it becomes a legal battle of lawyers, and the fine government red tape and endless roadblocks.  It takes a Supreme Court to fight our battles at  home.  But it takes thousands of young men and women to fight battles that has an unknown ending.  Are lawyers and our military one in the same?

Our country is in flux.  We are awaiting a new leader, gas prices are at an economic high, jobs are still hard to find.  We still have homeless, and the hungry.  Yet, children are obese because of physical education cuts, TV, computers and preservatives.  Tobacco is still big business, and yup, we still have a drug epidemic. It seems we have moved mountains overseas, but at home, little has changed.  We are fighting battles on battles, and wasting more money trying to define words.. such as 'marriage'.  But for now, strike one for the common citizen. Same sex couples can marry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and enjoy the same rights as heterosexual couples.

A roast to our fine governor for trying to take away school programs, social programs, jobs and the rights of taxpayers.

Peace, love and happiness,

Dee
