Introduction

Teen ConsumersHey, you! Yes, you! You, with the energy, enthusiasm and can-do attitude! You’re a member of the youth market. Do you have any idea how many movies, TV shows, products, and advertisements are aimed at YOU? In many cases you control marketing trends in the United State. But one area you don’t control, one area where you have relatively little impact, is one area that effects you in a big way: electing your President.

According to the Federal Election Commission, only 3.21% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 20 voted in the 1996 election. In fact, in 1972, when 18- to 20-year-olds were first given the right to vote, only 6.2% did. Since then the numbers have declined with every election.

That’s not the way it has to be!

Your goal in Election 2000 and Beyond is twofold:

1. to understand the process through which your President is elected, and

2. to increase your awareness of the opportunities for youth (personal) involvement in the political process.

Be informed. Be involved!

Be the YOU in YOUth vote!
