FIRING TESTS

FURNACE
Several tests were used to fire clay brick using the furnace indicated below. Firewood was used in the first test. The amount needed to fire the brick to the required level was almost prohibitive. Raw coal, excavated from site more than150km away, was used in the second test. The firing test was a success but more research was needed to choose the right clay mixture.
 

WATER RESERVOIR
Other facilities include the Water Reservoir
The Water Reservoir is strategically located inside an earth trough at the site with a filtering compartment. Catchment of rainwater is used during the rainy season ( four-five months), while a tanker truck is used to transport water to the reservoir the rest of the year. A 40 KVA Perkins electric generator supplies power to pump water from the reservoir to smaller water tanks..
