Living Under A Rock
I don't know what I'd been doing...
it's as if I had been living under a rock or something! I realized
that I had been spinning my wheels for the past month and a half.
Now I know better!
Well, I had been very busy working on
the new website and rehearsing with the new band, plus networking
and trying to contact the clubs and venues. I shouldn't be
too hard on myself.

Tonight my wife and I went downtown and checked
out all the clubs in the Gaslamp Quarter. I finally decided
it was time to network "big time" with all the musicians I knew.
And since Saturday is one of the biggest nights of the week for going out,
what better night to network with other musicians than tonight.
All I can say is... mission accomplished!
I met a lot of the great local jazz musicians... there was Hollis
Gentry and Glen Fisher at Croce's Jazz Bar, and Gilbert Castellanos
at The Juke Joint. I got a chance to sit in on the drummer's
kit, and back at Croce's, I got a chance to have a heart to
heart with Glen Fisher's drummer, the elderly yet energetic and incredible
Carlos Vasquez. Carlos gave me his number and we're going to
get together so he can teach me some Latin rhythms and secrets of his kit.
I dropped some promo packages at some of those
same jazz clubs, and I'm really going to push and promote my jazz
quartet appropriately named, "The Carlos Rull Quartet".
I got home feeling satisfied that I had caught
up with some of the jazz musicians I already knew, was able to chat
with all of them, and just make myself known to the jazz community
again.
It was great to finally get out there.
I'd been feeling as if I was becoming agoraphobic or something.
I'm feeling much better tonight than I was
a few days ago!
