Tonight's Gig:    The Amore Ballroom - San Diego

Waking Up On A Soccer Field
I woke up around 9:30am,  but lounged around on the bed for several minutes more.   Right away I got ready for the soccer games today.   I took the two boys to the soccer field.   My eldest son had his first game at 11:30am and we got through okay,  his team won 1-0.   It was a very defensive,  physical game and a couple of boys on each team were hurt and had to be carried off the field.   The ten year old boys are just really discovering about teamwork and passing the ball,  and not being a  jock!   I think it's great.

Later on we went to the other game,  the one for my six year old boy.   It pretty funny.   There's no real strategy.   The boys are thrown out on the field and everyone pretty much goes after the ball,  like a free-for-all.   And there's that situation where the goalie is daydreaming and looking up at the sky when the ball goes into the goal!!!   It happens at that age.   My younger son's team seemed to be daydreaming a bit today.   They lost 3-2 to a team that has never won a game yet until today!!   I felt good for the other team and their parents.   They really wanted that one win and they got it!

It's For The Boys
Hanging out at the soccer field is another experience in itself.  Sometimes I feel like I don't belong there,  but then again I'm able to adjust and get into the scenario,  and hang out with all the other soccer dads  (and moms).   I'm a musician and I feel weird socializing with some of the other parents.   Maybe it's just me.

Watching And Falling Asleep
After soccer we all had lunch,  watched a little TV and then I crashed on the sofa for a good hour's nap...   just catching up on some missing ZZZZs,  I guess.

Let's Go Trick Or Treating!
The kids went off trick or treating with their mom around the neighborhood and then she drove them to other parts of our community to trick or treat.   Every year they go to their former sitter simply known as Miss Mary.   It's fun to see the reaction on Miss Mary's face as the kids grow a year older and get a bit taller.   They only see Miss Mary on Halloween,  sort of like a tradition.   And Miss Mary has the most elaborate decorations and props set up in her front yard.   I mean,  she really goes overboard and it's really a sight to see,  all those lighted ghosts and goblins flickering in the night.

Trying To Get Ready
I had a tough time getting ready to get to the gig at the Amore Ballroom tonight.   Every time I started to get dressed or load something into the van,  some kids would come to the door and yell tricks or treats.

The Amore Ballroom
The place was definitely jumpin'  tonight,  but a first it seemed no one was going to show up.   Eventually,  the dancers started coming in droves.  I was so happy seeing so many dancers that I knew.   It's almost as if our usual swing following was all here at once.   I see various dancers at different gigs,  but to have pretty much everyone at the same gig was pretty exciting.   And all the people who made it from out of town,  I commend them for their dedication and warmth, and for bringing excitement to an otherwise dull evening.   The sound in the Amore is much to be desired.   The acoustices are pretty bad and the heat,  no air conditioning,  a virtual sweathouse.

Lot's Of Barflies
This gig at the Amore Ballroom was like a nice get together of members of the Big Time Operator and Barflies mailing lists.   It was great to finally meet Althea,  the two Mikes,  etc....  Toni,  Regina,  Jessica,  Ruthie,  and a few others whom I correspond via email were all here dancing up a storm and swingin'  their proverbial arses off!!!   It was great to finally see all these beautiful people here under one roof.   It's kind of weird,  having communicated with this people on the mailing lists,  and then meeting them all in person.   It's like I've known them all my life,  or something like that.
