Tonight's Gig:    Del Mar Bridal Show (11-1:30pm)

The Del Mar Bridal Show
I got up at 7:30am this morning but just laid there in bed until 8am, then had to get up, shower and get dressed for the Del Mar Bridal Show.   Shannon was thoughtful in calling me to make sure I was up.   I'm such a sound sleeper that I need guys in the band to call me and make sure I'm up for these early bird gigs.  It was just last night that we played the Amore Ballroom, and I actually didn't get home until 1:30am in the morning,  so six hours of sleep wasn't too bad.   I usually get by with less if I'm not too exhausted from a previous gig or two.

We ended up having to perform in full sunshine which is good for soaking up the California 'rays',  but bad if you're performing for a couple of hours in zoot suits!

We did get lots of water and pepsi from the folks running this show,  but man it was hot.   We were suppose to continue on from 11am to 4pm,  but had to quit at 1:30pm because of heat and because it was pretty much a freebie gig mainly for advertising.   All in all,  it was quite fun,  and the heat was getting everyone crazy where we did all kinds of weird,  fun things on the 'stage',  well actually,  the asphalt.   I guess you could say this gig got us a lot of 'exposure'...   a little more than we needed.   My face was a bit red into the evening from this sun-worshiper gig of ours.

Memories Of Earth, Wind & Fire
After our gig at the Bridal Show I was determined to buy a CD Box Set of Led Zeppelin at the La Jolla Tower Records.   To my surprise they didn't have it!!!   I was mildly shocked.   But,  I am also a big Earth, Wind & Fire fan from way back when,  and so I ended up buying the Earth, Wind & Fire CD Box Set entitled 'The Eternal Dance',  a combination of all their big hits, plus some unreleased material,  a large booklet profiling their history and all of the tracks re-mixed and re-mastered, wow!!!!

I started out playing in a large band with all the horns and vocals like EWF,  so it brought back so many memories when I picked up this special CD Box Set.   I've always enjoyed lots of horns,  and it carries into the big band stuff I'm involved with right now!

Hanging Out With My Significant Other
Got home around 2:30pm from the Del Mar Bridal Show and Tower Records.  Hung out with the wife and watched some video starring Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick, Jr. of which I've already forgotten the title.   I ended up crashing out of sheer exhaustion and had a great afternoon nap.   Then I woke up and checked email and worked on the website for awhile.

Visions Of Pleasantville
Went to the movies for a twilight show at 4:30pm and saw the movie 'Pleasantville'.   It was entertaining and had some underlying words of wisdom about life in general and the prejudices that unfortunately occur in real life.   It was a 'pleasant' movie experience and just took its sweet time in unfolding its story.   You just had to be a little patient with it,  but I noticed the guy next to me had fallen asleep during this movie.   Well,  I have to admit,  the airconditioning was at a very low level that it was a bit stuffy for me,  thus contributing to a few sleepy heads perhaps.   But it was a great film,  full of meaning and depth.

I Sleep Early For A Change!
I fell asleep about 10:30pm,  which was very early,  for me anyway.   I ended up falling asleep listening to the sounds of Led Zeppelin playing on my Sony Discman.
