a poetic journey
about me

  MON    6.22.98         the road home

This time I woke up early,  around 7:30am.   I was able to get my things ready by 8am for the trip back home to San Diego.

Ahhh.   I was able to finally partake in the continental breakfast!   It was however just coffee,  pastries, fresh fruit  and orange juice.   Well,  not a bad breakfast,  but not a fullblown continental breakfast either.

Our trip back home was basically uneventful.   Everyone was exhausted.   For lunch we stopped at the Harris Ranch Restaurant,  a well known establishment near Bakersfield,  specializing in steaks and burgers.   Well,  Rick,  our resident vegetarian had the mushroom sandwich,  so this restaurant at least was able to accomodate vegetarians.

Our afternoon stop was near San Clemente,  and realizing we were only an hour away from San Diego,  at least I myself was getting excited about getting back home.

We finally got to Warren's house around 7pm.   Jamie took me back to my house with one of the vans.   I was finally home,  Whew!

I think all and all,  the mini tour to San Fransisco was a very successful trip.   The band managed to get along and we didn't break up,  so that was a good thing.    I mean it's quite an accomplishment to keep 10 guys together for 2 years.   Even though the band had gone through a few personnel changes it seems the band and its concept has stayed intact.

Right now I'm just worrying about one thing,  and that's my knee.   I never had a knee injury before and the thought about possibly needing knee surgery scares the hell out of me.   What's really depressing is that this band is getting VERY popular and success seems to be coming to the band in leaps and bounds.   We've got Las Vegas coming up again and a private party in which the president of Disney will be there.

Well,  I know I have to keep a positive outlook on the situation.   I know my favorite drumming great Dave Weckl has had knee surgery and he's currently on a world tour,  so it is possible to be able perform after knee surgery.   Weckl is still going strong and impressing everyone in the drumming world.

When I finally got home I received a card from my two boys since yesterday was Father's Day.   My youngest son made this laminated poster that read,  "My dad is as fast as a bullet".   I was trying to figure out why he said that.   Possibly when he saw me performing one of my drum solos he might have been impressed by the speed in which I do my drum rolls.  Well,  I didn't ask.   But I understood his other poster which read,

Dear Dad,

I love you because you take me to see trains at the museum.   I'm lucky to have you as my dad because you give me great Birthday Parties.

Love,  Jordan

I was very touched by my son's effort,  and its message.   He made a drawing of himself and his dad in a grassy park with trees.   This went along with the letter,  and was all nicely laminated.   OK,  enough of the family sentiments.   I was back home with my family again and that's all that counts...
