  June 13, 1998          my son's party

The morning was spent doing errands for my youngest son's birthday party,  which was going to be from 3-5pm later on today.
Big Time Operator didn't have a gig tonight,  which was very surprising yet I wasn't complaining.   Any time I can get a Saturday off from the band is actually a blessing in disguise,  and I can use the time off to be with family and friends.   We had a gig scheduled with Sharp Memorial Hospital which was cancelled,  or rather postponed until a later date.   I found this odd,  since I noticed that they had advertised heavily for this event.   Well,  this was no skin off my back, and it was a blessing anyway because I knew I'd be a little bushed after my son's party was over.

The birthday party was a complete success.   It was held at Gold's Gym and the kids were guided through a variety of organized events.   First,  fun and games,  relay races and so on.  Then,  an opportunity to slide down this wire while holding on to this pulley contraption.  The kids really dug this alot.   Then it was off to the rock climbing wall where the kids had a blast trying to climb up this cliff-type thing which rotated to make it appear as though you were climbing up a tall cliff,  sort of like a mice's wheel but the kids climbed on the outside of this revolving wall.

After the rock climbing was pizza and cake and punch.   Once the kids had stuff themselves,  it was time to go to the pool to swim for the remainder of the time.   Afterwards,  the kids changed and collected their "loot bags" and the party had ended on a good note.  No problems,  no fuss, no muss.   It was surprisingly a nice, fun event.   The kids had a great time.

After the party,  and after opening all the presents at home,  my sister-in-law took the boys to her house while my wife and I finally got a chance to see a movie.   And we decided to see The Truman Show.   Ehhhh....    I expected a bit more from the movie,  but I liked the way it was presented and directed,  as well as the concept behind the story.   All and all,  it was an okay movie.   As a matter of fact I enjoyed Jim Carrey's interview on the Oprah Winfrey show more than I enjoyed his new movie.   I think Jim Carrey was a spontaneity that is excellent,  yet I feel it is this spontaneity that somehow gets lost in the movies he does.   Well,  on Oprah's show he was totally spontaneous and he had the audience rolling.  His impression of James Stewart was incredible,  and his facial contortions  on James Stewart were also dead on.

After the movie we went home and I was able to add more journal entries and made a few changes to the website before turning in and calling it a night.
