Sunday Reflections

It was 11:00AM when I finally decided to get out of bed and hit the shower.   My wife mentioned something about going out and getting the kids some ice cream at Baskin-Robbins!   I asked her,  "why ice cream this early?" and she explained that we were actually going to hang out at the Starbucks next door to the ice cream parlor,  with the intention of relaxing and reading the Sunday paper.

We ended up getting my older son the ice cream and my younger son a frappécino from Starbucks.   I've been hearing lately that Starbucks Coffee is not as good as it has been in the past,  and that Seattle's Best is the better brew.   I've tried both and I honestly say I can't tell which is the better coffee.   I like both,  although I like the taste of Starbucks better,  especially when I brew it myself at home with the 'plunger'.   Anyway,  my wife had a decaf and I had a Café Mocha,  then we sat down and read the Sunday paper for a while at Starbucks.   The boys sat down at an adjacent table and played Chess,  using the pieces available from a bookshelf near by.   They know how to move all the pieces,  but they don't know any strategies or tactics.

Much of my Sunday afternoon was spent playing the Sony Playstation with my kids,  working on the computer,  and doing some miscellaneous chores around the house.

I took a break from practicing drums.   I was a bit sore from last night's performance,  and so I made sure I rested from any drumming.

I cooked dinner and prepared orange roughy fish by baking it and then broiling it in the oven.   My wife missed my cooking.   It seems that I seldom get a chance to 'really' cook because the band is so busy with gigs,  some of which start rather early in the evening.   Anyway,  we had the fish,  rice and steamed vegetables with red wine,  a delicious Sunday offering!

After dinner I did a variety of things around the house.   Then I rummaged through some photos that I might want to scan at a later date,  possibly for the web site.

I got the kids ready for bed and told them a couple of bedtime stories.   The kids couldn't sleep tonight,  so I lied down alongside them and we talked about the upcoming trip to Disney World.   They were excited and I briefed them on how and what we were going to do on our little vacation.   Then my youngest son suddenly told me,  "Dad,  I really missed you when you were at Disney World".   I was very touched by my younger son's statement.
