An Encounter With The Sound Guy!

The band played at Hop City tonight, a nice, but seemingly obscure venue in Anaheim just blocks away from Disneyland.  Again, the marquee outside said "Swing Music" and didn't mention the band at all, but we still had a sizeable crowd, and a CBS camera crew was there doing a story on this 13 year old girl and the swing scene.  I guess the whole story was that young teenagers were getting into swing music.

The CBS crew filmed everybody;  the dancers, the audience, the girl, and the band!

Anyway, prior to downbeat, while I was setting up, the sound guy there starts giving me some attitude!   I had my cases on stage while I was setting up and was about to keep them when this sound guy picks up my cases and throws them to the back of the stage because they were supposedly in the way!   Well, I got pissed off and mumbled "motherfucker" and picked up my cases and brought them to the back room where I WAS going to put them.   When I was in the back room, Warren, Nate, Jim, and Marc all heard me mentioning that the sound guy was a "motherfuckin' asshole"!  Boy, why me lately?  What do people have against me?  I'm a minority and a lot of times I'm pretty  sensitive about this stuff!   What?  Is this guy a member of the KKK or what?  Why me?

Am I wrong to react this way?  Isn't he wrong for copping an attitude with me and I don't even know this guy?  If anyone has a clue please send email.

Anyway, the is the second time we've been at Hop City and just like last time, the sound guy seems to float my way and give me this compliment or starts getting friendly, as if he were trying to make ammends.  Boy, isn't life a grand mystery?

A Devoted Following

The dancers here tonight are some of our most devoted followers in Orange County.   Bernard is always at our gigs and I'm proud of that fact because he had won the California Lindy Championships in San Fransisco.   If he's always coming to our gigs then I know I must be doing something right as far as tempo and feel.   There are so many followers of our band here that I can only recognize their faces and I forget their names.

I was beginning to wonder if some of our crowd was going to The Majestic Theatre since there's a big swing extravaganza with dance contests and a costume contest for best dressed 40's style wear.  I was thinking of emailing someone to find out what's going on.

My Name's Deena

After the gig Nate and I drove to the nearest Del Taco to order food after the gig.   It's funny that whenever we'd go through the drive-thru we would get a recording of this young woman saying "Hello, my name is Deena, would you like to try one of our..."  and so we're supposed to respond with a "yes", right?  Wrong!   We always crack up when that recording goes on.  It's like, how are we supposed to answer to that,  we obviously want to order something else!   Anyway, after the recording a hispanic male starts speaking and we hardly understand a word he's saying.  So it's like he's in need of an "English As A Second Language Course".  Well, after the hispanic male is done taking our order we always trip the guy out by asking "hey, what happened to Deena"?  It gets 'em every time.

Email me if you feel like talking!
