CanXJW is a Yahoo group for ex-members of the Jehovah's Witnesses to gather in a safe and understanding environment. We recognize that leaving the organization is a difficult task that often inflicts much mental anguish. We respect that many ex-JW's are still seeking to find themselves and their place in life. We seek to inform those who do not know about what the Jehovah's Witness choose not to disclose when attempting to convert. The purpose of this site is to provide honest and truthful information above all else as well as offer resources for the interested.

The group owner of CanXJW left by choice after questioning the religion, she was labeled an apostate and the talk given after her announcement was "The dangers of Free Thought". Many who choose to leave are labeled apostate in an effort to discredit them. Others are "disfellowshipped" which is viewed as a disgrace. Both methods employ public humiliation and shunning of ex-members. Shunning from family, friends, and acquaintances (often which are the only connection a member has) can often result in serious depression leading to thoughts of suicide. Nearly every ex-member suffers from some kind of depression, anxiety or phobia. The influence of the organization is most damaging.
