This site was founded
as a gathering point for enthusiasts of this newly recognised
Native North American Breed of domestic cat. Known as
both the 'Bobcat look-alike' for its wild appearance and
'the canine of cats' for its personality, the Pixie-Bob
has a Legend-filled history stretching back hundreds of
years.
This is a breed of humble
beginnings, emerging from barns in the Pacific Northwest
where it was first developed as a distinct breed by the
founder, Carol Ann Breeder, and a small collective of
dedicated breeders. The Pixie-Bob was first recognised
by the Cat Fancy when TICA accepted the Pixie-Bob as New
Breed and Colour (NBC) in 1985. It graduated to full championship
status in 1998. In the same year, it was introduced to
Canada and CCA accepted it as NBC. CCA accepted Pixie-Bobs
for Championship in the summer of 2001.
The Pixie-Bob is still
considered a relatively rare breed. In fact, there are
only three Show cats living outside of North America.
One of them, FogForests Farley Mowatt, was born in Canada
and he is the first longhair Pixie-Bob to be sent to Europe.
He now lives in The Netherlands. The other two are a pair
of shorthairs residing in France. Even in North America,
there are very few breeders outside of the USA. We know
of only four catteries working with Pixie-Bobs in Canada.
People from all walks
of life, many who never believed they liked cats, have
fallen in love with this naturally bobtailed breed with
the spotted coat. So, if you are a Pixie-Bob pet owner,
a breeder, an Pixie-Bob enthusiast, or just found us by
surfing, please accept our invitation to enter this gathering
place.
We are hoping to build
a gallery of pet photos as well as an album of quality
breeders. Please let us know if you would like to share
photos of your Canadian-bred Pixie-Bob. Also, those people
who have created a HomePage for their pet Pixie-Bob can
get a free listing with us by simply emailing the webmaster.
