History
of the Breed...
Pixie-Bob was founded
in the early 1980s by Carol Ann Brewer of StoneIsland
Cattery in Washington State, USA. It was further developed
with the assistance of a small collective of breeders
in the Pacific Northwest. However, Carol Ann does not
claim to have created a breed. Rather, she and the F.T.L.O.P.
Board (literally For The Love Of Pixie) suggest they have
recognised and developed what was already there in the
litters of many barn cats.
Please visit the Pixie-Bob
Organization with links to StoneIsland Cattery, the breed
founder's website. Here, Carol Ann Brewer offers the story
of the Legend Cats who inspired this breed. She also reports
on the 10 year struggle to have this Native breed recognised
by the major cat associations.
Through the dedication
and sacrifice of the F.T.L.O.P Board, this found Native
breed was first recognized as a New Breed and Colour
by TICA in 1995. It was accepted to the Native Breed category
in the Brown Tabby Division. The Pixie-Bob first became
eligible for Championship status through TICA in May 1998.
The Breed's Founding Board founded The International Pixie-Bob
Conservancy website to explain its programs and to promote
understanding of the breed.
In 1998, Tracey Semchison
of Natureworks Cattery in Ontario brought the breed to
Canada. FogForest Pixie-Bobs was founded in 1998 as the
second Canadian breeder working with the original Pacific
Northwest lines and Blue List cats. Largely through the
work of Tracey, the Pixie-Bob was accepted as a New Breed
and Colour by CCA in 1999. However, because there are
just a handful of breeders of Pixie-Bobs in Canada, it
has been very difficult for the CCA judges to determine
whether they were familiar enough with the breed to judge
this cat in Championship.
Please
note:
The Pixie-Bob was accepted
for Championship in CCA in Summer 2001.
