I didn't think that Scary Movie would be any good but and I thought that I had seen all the good bits on the thousands of trailers that I had seen for the film but I was surprised to find that it was actually a funny film in places. As you would expect from a spoof like this some of the jokes are quite weak and predictable but it manages to keep the laughs coming until the end with a few big laughs occasionally popping up.
It manages this by spoofing as many recent films as possible in 90 minutes - Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Matrix, The Usual Suspects, Titanic, The Sixth Sense, The Blair Witch Project etc, and throwing in a load of crude and childish jokes in the hope that people will find it funny kind of like Me, Myself and Irene, which I definitely didn't find funny.
It seemed to be just a bunch of jokes put together one after the other masquerading as a movie because it follows exactly the same story as Scream which thinking about is very lame indeed but I have to reiterate that I did find it funny.
You'll either like it or hate it. I liked it but maybe if I was in a bad mood this morning I would probably be hating it right now. They are making Scary Movie II you know, I don't fancy its chances much though. It's out this summer and I have just read a review that says, "It felt like a typically bad comedy from the 80's." |
