Bucks U15 v Devon (FINAL)

U15 team at hook with England Star Beth Morgan

Above: U15 team at hook with England Star Beth Morgan

Batting first Bucks got off to the worst possible start with Alex out in the first over and the remaining batsmen then lost their wickets very cheaply. We were all out before lunchtime for 76. >Bucks then took to the field and we couldn't have got off to a better start with Sian Culley taking 2 wickets in the first over. Devon were 3 for 3! This looked very good! However Heather Knight stayed at the crease making 37 before Sian took her third wicket (lbw) and Devon eased their way to winning the game on 78.

Congratulations to both teams. Presentations were made by Beth Morgan England player and team photos were taken. A fitting achievement as the majority of the U15s will not be in this age group next year . Thanks to Steve Ayres for his excellent encouragement, Paul Atkins who helped out for 2 days and Kate O'Neill

Result: Bucks 76/10, Dorset78-?

Bucks U15 v Hants

The U15s relax after their excellent semi final win.

Above: The U15s relax after their excellent semi final win.

The semi final places were now with Bucks Devon Hants and Berks. As we managed to win our league we would be playing Hants as they were runners up in the opposite league. Batting first we started off at a very fast rate with Alex Rogers making 50 in 50 minutes before being caught with great work from Hannah McManus 42 .

Unfortunately within an hour and 40 minutes of starting the game and looking like we would have a big total Bucks got themselves out for 127. This was a low score to defend and we needed a good start which we were given by our bowlers and Bucks were fielding well and keeping the chances for runs to a minimum. Excellent teamwork and self belief won the day with Sian and Kate taking (3), Hannah Stephenson (2) Hannah McManus (1) and Alex (1). This was the best game they have ever played coming from what was a losing game to a magnificent result. Hants could not believe it to have had victory snatched from them. They made 111 all out and we were into the final for the first time. Devon were to be our opponents as they beat Berks.

Player of the day was Katie Dewhurst

Result: Bucks 127/10, Hants 111/10

Again batting first Bucks did not get off to the best start losing Alex in the first over quickly followed by Rosie. We were now 15 for 2. A partnership was now required and Kate Dewhurst (21) with support from Jenny Banfield (20) Natasha James (15) and Claire Anderson (24) and Lucy Farrell (32 n.o.) took the total through to 135 for 9. Bucks batting were improving down the order!

Our bowlers then set off and though it was close in the end we managed to bowl them out for 112. Excellent bowling, fielding, catching and run outs gave us the win we deserved. 2 excellent catches by Natasha James our novice wicketkeeper with wickets from Rosie (3) Hannah McManus (2) Sian Katie and Alex took 1 each. Player of the day was Lucy Farrell.

RESULT: Bucks 135/9, Somerset 112/10

Bucks U15 v Middlesex U15

Batting first Middx made 209 for 7 on a scorching afternoon. Bucks though started well with Sian Culley taking a wicket in her first over. However Middx number 3 made 69 and she had consistent support right down the order. Bucks did field well (had only 10 players ) and got 3 run outs! Some poor bowling however with 65 runs given away as extras. They were going to struggle to catch Middx.

Bucks did make a positive start and it was not till there were 41 runs on the board that we lost our first opener quickly followed the second!. Some excellent bowling and fielding limited Bucks to 106 all out.

Result: Middlx 209/7, Bucks 106/10

However Essex dug in and the next wicket didn't fall till there was 47 on the scoreboard. Wickets however did fall at regular intervals and Bucks bowled them all out for 119. Poor fielding lost this match as 8 catches were dropped.  Bucks batting never got off the ground and a succession of catches from Essex won them the match. A poor effort for Bucks with 49 only being made.
