the wide open spaces of the village pitch at Great Kingshill, Hants
batted first. Bucks bowlers were impressed by Alex & Carys both
taking a wicket in their opening
overs, so they all decided to chip in. Ros claimed 2 wkts for 5
& Sadie 3 for 12 before Alex’s stranglehold 2 for 9 saw Hants
struggling to score in their 30 overs. Their middle order batting had
started to stage a comeback & the generous 15byes had helped, but
their final total was 90 all out. For
Bucks Alex carried her bat through the 17 overs necessary to overhaul
the Hants total, finishing with a well crafted 25N.O. Tasha had a cameo
innings of 20 & Livvy13 N.O. as Bucks overhauled the Hants total,
completing a thoroughly workmanlike team performance. Team:
Carys Capt, Livvy, Hannah, Immy, Jade, Sadie, Ros, Tasha, Sandie, Lorna,
Heather, Ruth, 12th
Georgie
Result: Hants 87-7, Bucks 91-3 BUCKS U13 WIN 13/08/04 Malvern College
Above: The scoreboard from the match Match No. 3… Bucks had won1 game in style & Lost 1 without…… needed a good team performance to finish the week with a win & , in our calculation, gain 3rd place overall. Bucks won the toss, elected to bat. Sadie & Immy our 3rd combination to open the innings in the week proved the best. It was 9 overs and 27 runs before Leicestershire took a wicket and that was the unfortunate Immy run out for 9. Ros joined Sadie & together they took the attack to Leicestershire, taking full advantage of the weariness of the bowlers. Sadie was eventually retired having made her ever first 50! … a tremendous achievement at the end of a weary week & in such heat. Ros went on to make her PB with the bat 38 & Ruth made a sparkling 8 not out. Livvy lifted the temperature even further with a resounding 39 not out from 21 balls. Bucks had made their top score of the season 172-3 from 35 overs. When Leics came to bat the Bucks fielders were already warmed to the task, many of them having acted as substitute fielders for Leics & had seen Sadie, Ros & Livvy’s innings from close quarters. Once again Bucks used 8 bowlers to share out the task. It was Carys who set out our challenge with her best bowling of the season 6overs 9runs 2 wkts & the wickets were Leics opening bat & their top scorer Liz Macleod who made 41 before she was comprehensively bowled by Carys. Nicky Patel came to the crease….. Bucks had memories of her batting against us in the 9 Counties Tournament earlier in the season. Not this time though… there was hesitation, then more indecision while considering a run, but Immy resolved the situation & Nicky was run Out. There was some more resistance, for a while from their batters But Hannah & Ros accounted for them & with just 121 runs on the board, Bucks had won by 51 runs. Meanwhile it was Paige who impressed the cricketers of Gwent with her batting, chatting & bowling… cos she was our 12th for the day.Result: Bucks 172-3, Leics 121-10 BUCKS U13 WIN 12/08/04 Malvern College It was a shame we had to play this match on the pitch with the shortest boundary, never mind, it was the only pitch with shade at square leg, a respite from the scorching sunshine. Lots of people volunteered for that boundary position too! Bucks momentarily
thought they might have an easy morning, when Carys & Immy took
early wickets & the opposition were 28-2. But we had not reckoned
with a stand of 105 for their 3rd wicket. This stand was
eventually terminated when wicket keeper Livvy shed her pads to trap
opener Ali Moore LBW! By
now Ros Duckett was in full
flow with the bat having 66 runs from 34 balls, but as she went for a
second 6 Hannah emerged
from the shade at square leg to take a superb catch. Bucks 8 bowlers had
a hard time… not only conceding 24 wides in the 40 overs but seeing
Warwickshire dispatch the ball to many a picturesque corner of the
Malvern grounds was no fun either! Bucks reply started in
flimsy fashion with 3 for 18 off 5 overs. & several folk felt like
exploring those further regions of the grounds, just to hide away! Then
Paige started to dig in & with doughty defence Ros too Bucks
resistance began. Later Carys joined Ros to temporarily thwart
Warwickshire’s advance. Ros was eventually caught for 13 but Sadie
continued the good work, stoically notching 15 runs. Carys settled
to her rallying task, took a liking to the bowling & flashed
3 balls across the boundary. Her brave innings ended when she was bowled
by Liz Maxwell…last out with 28 runs… truly a captain’s knock
Bucks had only used 22 of their overs in making 93 runs, so finished a
hot day in time for an
early shower… still 65 runs behind Warwickshire. Result: Warw 158/7, Bucks 94-10 WARWS U13 WIN 11/08/04 Malvern College
Above: U13 team at Malvern College It took some solid hitting from Bucks Middle order to set the tempo of this match. Amy F made a career best 28 coming in at No6, then Livvy smote the Herefordshire bowlers for a speedy 41 (including 7 fours) before Paige, making her U13 debut added 14, terminated by an unfortunate run out! Posting 157 all out in 30 overs, was not at all likely when Bucks were 14-4, but Immy had teamed up with Amy to stop the rot. Determined to start
their innings in a different way, Herefords batters defended astutely to
openers Carys & Hannah. First change bowler Ros was soon
causing havoc with a deadly 3 wickets for 4 from 2 overs.
In the spirit of the Festival Bucks used 10 bowlers to skittle
Hereford out for 50 while Heather, our 12th for the day, was playing for Gwent over
the bank. She knocked a career best 34 retired & we promised her a
game for Bucks on the morrow. Result: Bucks 157-10, Here 10-10 BUCKS U13 WIN 03/08/04 Newbury Welcoming 4 girls in their first 30 over hardball match + 2 who had the vast experience of just one such match, we hoped the 5 other more experienced players would help us through the day., after 4 overs & with Carys Webster, Alice Mac & Ros Crawley back in the pavilion 18-3 was the springboard for Livvy Lacey to start our fight back, first with Lydia & then Lorna. Livvy stuck to her task, restrained her natural tendencies(!), mustered a useful 10 runs & gave Lorna a chance to find her feet. Sabah looked settled for her 6 runs, then after a misunderstanding, was run out. But fear not…here comes debut player Tiz at number9. After a whirlwind stand of 36 with Lorna ( yes she was still there batting & battling on) and five 4s later Tiz was bowled. She’d top scored for Bucks with a more than useful 24….great stuff. Star of the innings was undoubtedly Lorna having come in with the side in some distress, she used her determination & guile to accrue 14 runs, batting for 97 minutes. Last out, she resisted the beamers & other attacks from Berks to see Bucks safely to 112. Carys & Ros opened the bowling, surprised Berks’ batters with their accuracy, Carys finished her 4th over by bowling out both the openers to clock her stats at 23-2, & Ros, her usual teasing touch, had 9-0 from her 4 overs. Relay throws were the necessary return route & although our XI had never met before the match, they combined well, with Ros keeping everyone on their toes so that Paige & Liz were well placed to speed the ball back to keeper Livvy. Result: Bucks 112/10, Berks 79/9 BUCKS U13 WIN 25/07/04 The Lee CC A Match report will appear here shortly Result: Kent A 205/5, Bucks 64/10 KENT U13 A WIN 21/07/04 Marlow Park CC The school summer holiday started with this non-league fixture against Oxford in the picturesque setting of Marlow Park CC. Bucks fielded, our first ever, U12 team to give some of our younger players a chance to play a match in full county colours. Captain Ros & Alice Mac, batting first, opened soundly, with Alice making 14 & Ros 12 before they both fell in consecutive overs to Fritha. After that Bucks defended well, but runs were hard to come by, except for Alice D who finished on 14N.O. & Bucks had mede 75-6- Sophie taking 3 for 7 Oxford’s reply faltered, when after 3 overs Ros took their first wicket…9-1. But the runs total on the scoreboard ticked over ominously. Bucks lacked experience in the field as they failed to press home their earlier advantage. Sabah joined our attack & immediately caused Oxford problems. Althought slight of frame she produces surprising pace off the pitch. She finished with 3 for 19 & was Bucks top bowler as Oxford made the required runsfor the loss of 5 wickets. In the spirit of thie developmental game, a second match was played with Bucks reversing their batting order & then giving everyone a bowl. This time Oxford made 86-6 and Bucks were closer with 77-6. Team: Ros Crawley, Lorna Browne, Susanna Challinger, Alice Duffy, Alice Macleod, Amy Fisher, Heather McNeil, Ruth Morley, Sabah Hussain,Paige Lacey-Akers, Susie Gillot. Result: Bucks 75-6, Oxf 76-3 OXFORD U13 WIN 04/07/04 Great Kingshill CC A Match report will appear here shortly Result: Hants 90-10, Bucks 91-3 BUCKS U13 WIN 27/06/04 Aylesbury CC For
this return match, Bucks
had a strong team out, hoping for revenge against our local rivals,
having lost to them at Bishops Stortford earlier in the season. Herts
won the toss, elected to bat & faced some uncharacteristic
wayward bowling from the Bucks opening attack. A Swann & later
L.Guthrie delighted in dispatching the
legside bowling to the boundary,
which was tantalisingly short on the tennis court side.
They kept Bucks fielders scampering, often in vain, as the ball
disappeared, towards the tennis players……
Eventually it was Sandie’s alert fielding which took the first
wicket, & A.Swann was run out for a brisk 43. Herts were already
75-1 from 15 overs. Bucks 6th
bowling change took the next & only bowling wicket, Alice Mac
forcing a catch to Ros after L.Guthrie had plundered 38 from 25 balls.
It took another R.O., this time from Alice’s arm, to take the 3rd
wicket & after 30 overs
Herts were 148-3. Time
for a freshening rain shower, tea & a chance to catch up with
progress at Wimbledon, on the clubhouse TV., before Bucks started their
reply. Our
best chance of getting the runs was when
Tasha came in 3rd wicket down. First partnering Livvy
& later Carys, she played her best knock of the season so
far. Tasha made 40 before Herts
recalled their opening bowler to remove her. Then 3 Bucks wickets fell
in quick succession & Carys was left stranded on 13 N.O. with Bucks
managing 94-7 in their 30 overs, still 54 runs short.
Result: Herts 148/3, Bucks 94/7 HERTS U13 WIN 13/06/04 Farningham Bucks started with what can only be called several short partnerships, one of them being terminated by a run out! So much for plans! Alice Duffy then set the tone for those who followed, faced 37 balls & collected 8 important runs but stayed long enough to pose the Kent bowlers several questions. Alice Mac came to the wicket with the score 59-5, faced 28 balls, scored her best for Bucks so far (14n.o. also our highest scorer for the day) & she saw 59 runs added to our total during her innings. Bucks made 118-9 from their 30 overs. Next it was Kents turn to bat It was the 8th over before Ros took the first Kent wicket, as she bowled their number 2 & then claimed their number3 batter in her next over. Kent pushed the score along to 55 & then the introduction of Alice Duffy’s left arm over the wicket bowling. This spell produced 2 Kent wickets in 3 balls… scoreboard looked a bit better for Bucks as Kent were now 55-4 . Then Alice went on to take a third wicket thanks to a sharp chance catch, held by Alex at mid off. Hannah came back for her second spell & trapped the patient Kent opener LBW – the score was 63-6. Kent’s score crept ever closer to the Bucks total. Alex came back into the attack, & claimed 2 wickets, while Ros bowled her last 2 overs for just 2 runs to ensure the win for Bucks by 20 runs. Result: Bucks 118-9, Kent B 98-9 BUCKS U13 WIN 06/06/04 Bishops Stortford After meeting Herts in the 8 aside earlier in the week this second encounter provoked many hopes & plans for the 30 over version of the game. Some hopes reached fruition, some fell by the wayside! Herts batted first & Alex set the tone we had hoped for, forcing a bowled out & an LBW in the first over, could it all be this easy? Ros Crawley bowled a tidy first over, then removed L Guthrie for a useful 18, we had them 33-3 from 7 overs. Meanwhile Rebecca Witherden, at number 4 for Herts, had settled for a steady accumulation of runs, mostly singles, just a couple of 4’s as she built her innings. Both Alice’s bowled in tandem, Alice Mac claimed 2 wickets both bowled out, then Alice Duffy joined in, claiming her first wicket for Bucks , clean bowling Caitlin Brown who had made a stand of 45 with Rebecca. Bucks finally removed Rebecca with the last ball of our 30 overs. Bucks set about their reply Sadie Cole & Alex Rogers batting calmly till Sadie missed a straight one. So Alex Rogers & Livvy Lacey together set about the Herts bowling at 37-1 off 9 overs things were going well, Herts brought on Helen Marques and she bowled both Alex (26 from 27 balls) & Livvy(19 from 19) in her first over, Carys Webster in her second, Ros in her next… 52-5 was quite a different story. Herts had the upper hand now & it was not long before our last 4 batters were dispatched leaving Lorna stranded on 0 n.o. Bucks had slumped to 58 all out. Result: Herts 166-8, Bucks 58-9 HERTS U13 WIN 03/06/04 Bishops Stortford South
East Girls U 13 Inter County Tournament When the
ECB in their greater wisdom decided they would no longer stage an U13
tournament for 20+ county
teams at Oundle, Barry Humphries the ideas man from Hertfordshire came
up with this 9 counties tournament at Bishops Stortford College. What a
great event it turned out to be… cricket in the sun, a fleeting visit
from Charlotte Edwards & a memorable speech along with the
presentations from Audrey Collins OBE, veteran England player of the
1930’s all contributed to its undoubted success. The counties were drawn in 3 groups of three for their round robin series of matches in the morning. Bucks lost their first match to Herts. Bowling & fielding tightly limited Herts to 38-5, but still having something of a hangover from Sunday’s ‘run out fever’, we mostly accounted for our own top order batters and the total of 22 runs from 8 overs was well short of gaining a winning start to the day. Herts 38-5 Alex 27-2, Ros 8-1, Carys 10-1 Bucks 22-4…….Herts WIN Next game up, against Sussex, still a bit shell shocked we let them score 52-2, leaving ourselves the challenge to score more than double our previous total to win! With a rolling batting order, it was Carys & Lorna’s turn to open the batting. Calling clearly for all the runs now, we collected a bye here & a leg bye there as well as runs from the bat to establish a sound start. Carys perished, bowled out in her quest to keep abreast of the challenge. Alex joined Lorna at 12 for1 & they settled to their task. Alex decided she liked what she saw, and blasted her way to 35 from 4 overs to take the score to 54-1 & so win the match with 2 balls to spare.. Sussex 52-2 Bucks 54-1 Alex 35n.o. Lorna 3no. Bucks WIN Herts had won our mini league & went into the first place play offs. Bucks had the chance to play off for 4th place with Cambridgeshire & Leicestershire. Bucks lost 2 early wickets against Cambs but now it was Livvy’s turn with the bat. She was happy to leave the keepers pads off for a while as she and Alice set about the Cambs attack.. Together they clocked up a match winning stand of 43. Livvy was unlucky to be given Run Out on 37, a knock that included 5 fours. Bucks bowlers were on the spot in their reply Ros bowled 2 out , Alex & Carys 1 each, then Alex claimed a c&b as Cambs struggled to 22-5. Bucks 49-3 Livvy 37 Alice 6 n.o. Cambs 22-5 Alex 2-2, Ros 3-2, Carys 8-1.Bucks WIN Our final game of the day saw the very accomplished 10 & 11 year old batters of Leicestershire, calmly playing cricket shots all round the wicket, despite the pace of Alex & Carys + the nagging accuracy of Ros, Losing only 3 wickets, they set a target of 38 to win, as the challenge for Bucks batters. Carys found form with the bat making a not out 15, while Alex made 15 as well, before Sadie arrived at the crease to hit a 2 to win the match for the loss of just 3 wickets. Leicester 37-3 Carys 10-2, Alex 7-1. Bucks 39-3 Alex 15, Carys 15n.o. Bucks WIN FINAL RESULTS

9th Oxfordshire The squad was Carys Webster capt, Livvy Lacey vice capt, Lorna Browne, Jade Butcher, Sadie Cole, Ros Crawley, Alice Macleod, Alex Rogers. 30/05/04 Ashford CC Bucks U13 Girls were treated to an explosive opening bowling spell supported by well honed fielding skills & were found to be well short as they lost their top 5 batters to Run Out decisions, before Livvy Lacey started to hit a few balls. Was it anger that blasted 2 fours across the boundary & tested the Kent throwing arms again? Livvy Lacey perished, yes you’ve got it, this time run out from a no ball….(different!) Georgie Gillot stuck around for a while collecting one run herself but the beginnings of a face saving act for the team. Eventually she fell too, & Lorna Browne took over her role before our debut players Amy Fisher, Heather McNeil & Susie Gillot fell too. Kent A ‘s opening batters made the necessary 29 runs to win in chanceless style, despite loud LBW appeals from Bucks & helpful retrieving the ball from the boundary, as they struck 5 fours to make the necessary 29 run winning total. Result: Bucks 28/10, Kent A 29-0 KENT U13 A WIN 23/05/04 Winchmore Hill CC Bucks U13 Girls cricket team started their season in the SE Counties League with a resounding 70 run win over Kent B at Winchmore Hill on Sunday. Batting first, the Bucks openers fell early but the middle order steadied the ship with a stand of 46 runs, from Imogen Barton Jones(Gerrards Cross) 30 and Carys Webster( Ballinger CC)19. Bucks finished with a respectable 102-6. The Kent batting struggled against probing bowling & alert fielding. Imogen was in the spotlight again taking 3 wickets for 5 runs and Sadie Cole (Chesham CC) wrapped up the game for Bucks with 2 clean bowled in a spell of just 2 balls! Result: Bucks 102-6, Kent B 32-10 BUCKS U13 WIN 25/04/04 St Albans Sunshine, bluie skies & a long green growth on the grass…..it can’t be the cricket season….? Our
warm up game saw Carys win the toss & elect to bat as the 12 from
Bucks took on the CambridgeXII at St Alban’s. In
6 overs Alex had made 17… & was then
bowled. Sadie stoically dug in, hit our first 6 of the season
(hopefully, not our last) but fell by the wayside in the 9th
over… her job done!Tasha smote 5 boundaries before she was retired o
30. Not to be out plaued Livvy made her 30 from 19 balls, meanwhile at
the other end it was Immy who teased the Cams bowlers, took her time ,
but also made 30. Late in the innings, Carys stuck around for her 8 N.O.
& Bucks closed on 160-4 from their 30 overs. G.Simmonds was
Cambridge’s top bowler with2-19 from her 6 overs. Cambridge
found runs hard to come by. Alex bowled 4 overs for 8 & hannah went
for 9 off hers. But it was Carys who celebrated our first wicket of the
season with
a clean bowled. The Cams total crept to 39 from 12 overs when
Sadie, our 7th bowler bagged the 2nd wicket &
Livvy tookthe 3rd. some indecisive running & pinpoint
returns to wicketkeeper Tasha accounted for the next 2 batters…48-4.
Time for Alice Duffy to make her Bucks bowling debut… 2 wickets for 2
runs was a stunning start to her Bucks carrer. Another debut player,
Jade Butcher also took her first wicket. After their alloted 30 overs
Cambridge had reached 74-9 & Bucks had won by 86 runs.
Lets hope we can bat & bowl as well in our League matches. TEAM:
