22/6/01                                                                                                                                     Aylesbury CC
Bucks Swans U13 v Aylesbury Girls

Three wins in a row for Bucks U13 Swans as they beat Aylesbury girls by 3 wickets with 3 overs to spare. The girls section of Alesbury club was formed 2 years ago and they challenged the Swans to a 16 over match.
Bowling was tricky in the strong cross wind and using the lighter incrediball. But Carys W. eventually foung her groove snapping up 3 wickets for 17 the best return by a Swans bowler this season. Wicketkeeper Emily held a smart catch off Hannah McMannus's tight bowling. Swans contained Aylesbury on 64-5, thanks to some good catches and excellent support in the field.
Aylesbury started strongly holding swans to 35-3 after half  their overs. But then skipper Georgia C. joined Hannah McM. at the wicket, some smart running caused the run rate to pick up. Hannah batted throughout the innings for 29* and Swans overhauled the Aylesbury total with 3 overs to spare.
Bowling: Hannah McM  1 for 7 off 3
             Sophie K 1 for 6 off 3
Batting: Hannah McM 29*, Georgia* 8

Bucks Swans U13 v Berkshire U13

After the rain of Saturday, we abandoned the idea of a match on grass, so agreed with Berks to do battle on the Astroturf. With that, the drizzle started and we soon found how difficult it was to bowl with a wet ball. Extras became the highest scorer of the day, but the other side of the coin was that we limited Berks to just 20 runs of the bat in 20 overs.
We started our reply with a new opening partnership of Cassie and Claire, who stood firm against the Berks opening attack and then with the fall of the first wicket, Vicki stepped into the breach, continuing with the same determined defense. After drinks at 21-1 (Berks 20-2 at the same point) Bucks took up the challenge. Trying to keep the scoreboard moving, Claire was run out for 4, which brought Louise to the wicket. She started by pushing a couple of quick singles, then Vicki crashed the ball to the boundary and the pressure was back on the fielding side. Together they kept the score JUST ahead of the asking rate with Vicki striking the second 4 of her innings to win the match for Bucks in the 19th over.
Many congratulations to the whole team...
This was the first time that our U13's had won a county match!
Bowling: Hannah 1 for 3 off 4, Vicki 1 for 7 off 3, Sophie 1 for 14 off 4.
Batting: Vicki 29*, Louise 6*
Team: Georgia*, Sian, Natasha, Clare, Louise, Sophie, Cassie, Hannah, Vicki, Rachel, Carys

With thanks to Michael Mills and his very able daughter for keeping the score box humming and the book up to date. Mary Anderson and Pat Khaihra served amazing cups of tea all day.

10/6/01                                                                               Marlow Park CC
Bucks Swans U13 v Marlow Park CC U11

On a blustery morning and in an idyllic setting for Sunday morning cricket, Bucks Swans took on the might of Marlow CC's U11 Colts. We started strongly- toppling the first 3 batsmen for 12 runs, with our best bowling and fielding performance of the season, so far, but opener M. Way and No. 5 J. Kellerher staged a recovery for Marlow, pushing the score to 39 before Sophie K snapper up 2 wickets in 2 balls. Marlow were more cautious after this, so after their 20 overs, they finished on 57 for 8.
Carys W. had bowled H. Cassidy for a duck, so when he opened their bowling he had a lot to prove and that he did, as he snatched 3 wickets in his first 2 overs! Form 3 for 3 Swans started to build their recovery with a solid stand from top scorer Louise E. (14) and Clare A. who took 8 overs to steady the ship and score an important 3 runs. Cassie M. hit the ball firmly contributing 7 runs, before being run out, trying to match the Marlow scoring rate. There was a flurry of run outs and Swans fell short of the target by 13 runs, but in this match we had batted out our full 20 overs and put in some excellent bowling performances.
Keep it up girls....Look out Berkshire next weekend!!!
Bowling: Sophie 2 for 12, Sian 1 for 7, Carys 1 for 8, Georgia 1 for 13, Hannah 1 for 13, Natasha 1 for 4.
Batting: Louise 14, Cassie 7.
Both keepers Natasha and Carys had an excellent game.
Team: Georgia*, Clare, Sian, Rae, Hannah, Rachael, Louise, Cassie, Rosie, Sophie, Carys, Natasha.
Many thanks to Chris Wilkes and Steve Earl for help with scoring and umpiring.

13/5/01                                                                                            Ballinger
Bucks Swans U13 v Ballinger Waggoners U11

Bright sunshine and blue skies heralded our first full 11 aside game of the summer, against Ballinger Waggoner's Colts. We found ourselves batting on a fast pitch, having lost the toss, our early batters were surprised by the Colt's pace. The batting success of our last match was soon forgotten as we were made to work hard for runs, both by tight bowling and sharp fielding. Emily was solid in her opening role but was caught out when she tried to move the score along faster. Rachel also stood soundly for 4 overs but fell in her quest for more runs. Natasha, playing in only her second game top scored. We were all out for 43, having used only 15 of our overs.
Ballinger Waggoner's openers came out to face our attack and Hannah struck a mighty blow by bowling Chris with her second ball!!! Buoyed up by this success, our fielders kept the game tight as Georgia and Sian bowled to a good line. But our batting total was too small to defend and steadily the Colts collected the runs, our fielding became a tad ragged under pressure, Natasha came on and bowled Richard but it was all too late and we had to concede defeat by 6 wickets.

Team: Georgia Crompton*, Clare Anderson, Emily Gray, Olivia Lacey, Rachel Earl, Beth John, Hannah McMannus, Kirsty McKenzie, Natasha Daly, Sian Culley, Sophie Kiahra.

Many thanks to Carys Webster, who cannot play at present as she is recovering from a broken collarbone, but was an excellent scorer

Ballinger win by 6 wickets.

8/5/01                                                                             Winchmore Hill CC
Bucks Swans U13 v Winchmore Hill U11

Bucks Swans U13 played their first match of the 2001 season on a perfect summers evening (including midges), at Winchmore Hill CC, with an 8-aside pairs match against their U11 colts side.
Swans batted first and made +77 runs for the loss of only 4 wickets, thanks to a sound start from Vicki and Georgia, some lusty blows from Sian and sometimes friendly bowling from the home side!
After their first pair had taken 14 runs from their 4 overs, Winchmore Hill found runs hard to come by... Vicki and Sian had applied the brakes with 4 for 2wkts and 8 for 3wkts respectively. They were ably supported by some enthusiastic fielding which held the colts to +38 for 6 wickets.
Well done girls a great start to the season with a win by 39 runs!

Team: Clare Anderson*, Vicki O'Neill, Georgia Crompton, Sian Culley, Megan Masterson, Olivia Lacey, Meghna Shetty, Natasha Daly, Hannah McMannus, Hannah Stephenson.

Bucks win by 39 runs.

Bradfield Indoor Competition

Bucks Challoner's U13
Challoner's competed well in their first indoor tournament. Due to key players being unavailable the team was strengthened by Olivia (Chesham Prep) and Carys (Thomas Harding). The Challoner's girls beat Borlase and Berkshire Stags to come third in the tournament. Notable performances came from Sian (10 runs against Oxon), Olivia (12 runs against Borlase), Megna (4-22-3) and Hannah (4-16-2).

Bucks Swans U13
Bucks Swans were a force to be reckoned with in the Bradfield tournament. Despite the team lacking indoor match experience they were a dominant team. The swans finished eventual winners. Notable performances came from  Katie (4-15-2), Sophie (4-22-2), Emily (41 runs in the tournament and Claire (12* against Oxon Ravens). Special mention goes to Natasha who's sharp fielding (3 direct hit run outs) and good all round play led her to receiving the outstanding player award in the U13 section.
